This school in the exciting country of Bahrain offers an extensive and very thorough induction to the school and continued professional development throughout the year. They recently obtained "Outstanding in all areas" in a recent school inspection. Children attend the school from age 2-11. The school, established in 1978, follows the English National Curriculum and supplements their activities and learning with different schemes and resources from Australia, New Zealand, the USA, and elsewhere. They are a registered member of the British Schools of the Middle East (BSME) association and a registered British School Overseas (BSO) under the British Department for Education (DfE.) They can offer QTS to newly qualified teachers. The school currently has 400 children enrolled in the school from 51 countries, and the mix of children creates a happy atmosphere where different cultures mix and learn from each other. They have over 60 full time staff and additional part-time and support staff mainly from the UK, Ireland, America, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Their class work is mostly topic/theme based with a strong emphasis placed on language, expression, imagination, art, and music. History, Geography, Art-and-Craft, and Science and Technology are incorporated into these centers of interest, as well as taught separately. Music, Drama, PE, and Library are in the weekly syllabus for all children. The children are taught in whole-class, group, and individual sessions. They have a strong Learning Support Department which works with children who need extra support with mathematics, language, literacy, and reading. The Staff at the school are enthusiastic and creative team players, who embrace the school’s holistic approach to education. The school has a range of years’ experience within the staff – from NQTs to career teachers with over 30 years experience. The staff supports each other very well, and there is a true sense of camaraderie within the school. There is an extensive support, mentor and CPD program within the school. The school’s management has an Open Door Policy whereby staff are welcome to talk and seek support/advice from the Senior Management Team at any time. The school’s SMT is known for being caring, considerate, and willing to “go the extra mile” to support staff with both professional and private matters. Bahrain is a very liberal Gulf country. Expatriates in Bahrain have an active social life, and there are many social clubs, sporting clubs, and associations available to join. There are many shopping malls and supermarkets which provide “the comfort of home” as well as many cultural and historical activities which can be enjoyed during the week and at weekends. Bahrain is located centrally within the Arabic Gulf which affords lots opportunity for travel and adventure – Europe is 3 hours away and Asia 4 hours, with great regional travel options available, too...great for staff who wish to see new countries during school holiday time! Required skills or credentials We prefer our teachers to have a Bachelor of Education or a Bachelor Degree and then a post-grad degree in Education. We do not have a preference for amount of experience, although we do prefer teachers to have worked in a similar setting.
