Job Description GateSource HR Caribbean Division is partnering with a key client in the Caribbean to recruit a Electrical Standards Engineer to s upport the reliability and performance of the Transmission & Distribution (T&D) network by researching, designing, developing, and maintaining material, equipment, and method standards. This includes work on Substation HV/MV equipment, power transformers, and both overhead and underground systems, utilizing electrical, mechanical, and civil engineering principles. Key Responsibilities Maintain and update design and construction standards for overhead and underground primary and secondary voltage lines in alignment with North American standards such as NESC, CSA, ANSI, and IEEE. Manage the development, review, and approval process of all T&D equipment standards—including HV/MV substation components and power transformers—in coordination with the Standards Committee. Establish and maintain a centralized, version-controlled database housing standards, meeting minutes, action items, and related documentation. Lead engineering projects that support upgrades and maintenance of both T&D and generation systems. Authenticate engineering designs for standard and custom applications to meet regulatory requirements and ensure compliance with external agencies. Provide engineering and technical support for customer projects within the Energy Operations Division. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Joint Safety Advisory Committees (JSAC) and Work Methods Committees, to deliver engineering input and ensure safe practices. Stay informed of current trends and updates in electric utility standards and apply them proactively. Perform other related duties as required. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (preferably with an electrical focus). Minimum of 8 years of post-graduate experience in T&D engineering within jurisdictions that follow North American standards. Eligibility for registration—or current registration—as a Chartered or Professional Engineer. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and technical drawing software such as AutoCAD. Strong understanding of electrical, civil, and structural design principles. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to evaluate and implement solutions to engineering challenges. Strong written and verbal communication abilities. Up-to-date knowledge of electric utility standards and their practical application. Ability to build and maintain technical relationships with industry peers and vendors. Capability to apply engineering principles to resolve complex design and maintenance issues.
