Director of Surgical Services – Northern California Compensation: $184,683 – $277,014 (based on experience) Bonus: 17.5% target with upside to 150% Relocation Assistance Available An exceptional opportunity is available for a proven Surgical Services leader to step into a high-visibility Director role within a large, advanced acute care environment in Northern California. Position Overview The Director of Surgical Services will provide strategic and operational leadership for the Operating Room, ensuring delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care while driving efficiency, growth, and team engagement. This leader will oversee all aspects of surgical operations including staffing, budgeting, quality outcomes, and program development. The role requires a balance of hands-on operational leadership and forward-thinking strategy. Key Responsibilities Operational & Clinical Leadership Direct day-to-day operations of the OR with full accountability for performance, quality, and outcomes Ensure evidence-based practices are implemented to drive patient safety and clinical excellence Optimize patient throughput, scheduling efficiency, and overall surgical flow Maintain compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, and quality standards Team Leadership & Development Lead, mentor, and develop a team of approximately 50–55 FTEs, including one direct Manager Build a culture of accountability, collaboration, and engagement Identify training needs and provide ongoing coaching to elevate team performance Recruit and retain high-performing clinical talent Strategic Growth Partner with physicians and executive leadership to expand surgical services and introduce new programs Identify opportunities for service line growth and increased surgical volume Support implementation of advanced surgical technologies and robotics Financial Oversight Manage departmental budget, including labor, supplies, and capital equipment Monitor financial performance and implement strategies to improve efficiency and reduce costs Drive productivity and ensure appropriate staffing models are maintained Patient Experience Champion a culture focused on delivering an exceptional patient experience Utilize patient feedback and performance metrics to drive continuous improvement Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required Master's Degree preferred Minimum 3+ years of Surgical Services experience At least 1+ year of leadership experience (Director or strong Manager ready for next step) Strong operational, financial, and team leadership skills Proven ability to lead in a fast-paced, high-acuity surgical environment Program Highlights 12 Operating Rooms Service Lines: General, Spine, Orthopedics, Open Heart, Neuro Advanced Robotics Platform: Globus, Mako, ROSA, Da Vinci systems Primary Stroke Center designation Reports directly to VP of Surgical Services This is a highly visible leadership role with strong executive backing, advanced surgical capabilities, and significant opportunity to make an impact on both clinical outcomes and program growth.
