Position : Senior System Administrator- 2nd Level Support for Classified VPN Solutions Location : Bonn, München (One person will be hired for each location) Field : Defence Type : Full-time/40% Remote Project / Department Overview The role is part of a service operations environment responsible for the support and operation of secure VPN solutions approved for handling sensitive but unclassified information. The focus is on 2nd level support for VPN software solutions, with possible involvement in related VPN hardware components. The position is assigned to a support team responsible for software products used in secure remote access environments. The main responsibility is the independent telephone-based handling of incidents via remote support, including troubleshooting, documentation, and coordination with relevant technical teams. Responsibilities The Senior System Administrator will be responsible for the following tasks: Independently handle incoming incidents by phone as part of 2nd level support. Troubleshoot VPN solutions used in customer and internal operating environments. Provide remote support and analyze technical issues related to secure VPN software solutions. Support the operation, administration, and troubleshooting of VPN components such as secure VPN clients, VPN cards, or comparable classified remote access solutions. Analyze incidents, identify root causes, and initiate appropriate resolution measures. Document incidents, troubleshooting steps, solutions, and operational findings in a structured and traceable manner. Support the planning, assessment, and implementation of changes related to the IT service. Participate in test and quality management activities in the role of tester. Install and configure VPN solutions in accordance with applicable security requirements. Maintain and further develop technical documentation. Coordinate with other support teams, service operations units, and technical stakeholders when required. Ensure service quality, stability, and operational efficiency in line with agreed service standards. Required Qualifications Completed vocational training in a relevant IT profession, such as IT specialist for system integration or application development. At least 4 years of professional experience in an IT environment . Strong understanding of IT service operations and secure communication services. Good knowledge of Windows operating system administration. Experience working according to ITIL practices. ITIL Foundation certification or equivalent proven experience is desirable. Required Professional Experience The candidate should have: At least 4 years of experience in service operations , including administration and support of IT and communication services within a delivery organization. At least 2 years of experience in incident management , especially telephone-based 2nd level support. At least 2 years of experience in the operation, administration, or troubleshooting of VPN solutions , preferably as a main area of responsibility. Experience with secure VPN solutions, for example secure VPN clients, secure remote access components, or comparable products. At least 2 years of experience in Windows OS administration . Practical experience working with ticketing systems, remote support tools, and technical documentation. Language Requirements German: C1 level according to CEFR. English: B1 level according to CEFR. Proof of language skills may be provided through a CV, certificate, reference, self-declaration, or equivalent evidence. Native speakers are exempt from providing separate proof for the respective language. Willingness to support other teams and locations when required. Special Requirements Willingness to provide a current police clearance certificate at the start of the assignment. No nationality or country-of-origin restrictions that would conflict with security-related requirements under applicable security regulations. Willingness to travel nationally up to approximately 20% if required. Possible work locations include Bonn, Munich, Berlin, or other locations within Germany in exceptional cases. Additional Information After the onboarding phase, the expected remote work share is approximately 40% on average. Occasional on-site assignments at other locations within Germany may be required depending on operational needs.
