Organizational Background Higher Heights for America is the political home for Black women. We are a national organization dedicated to building the political power, leadership, and visibility of Black women in elected office and civic life. Through research, advocacy, digital organizing, and strategic communications, Higher Heights works to ensure Black women’s leadership is seen, supported, and sustained. Video storytelling is a core component of our communications strategy, helping us reach national audiences, support candidates, mobilize voters, and document the leadership of Black women across the country. 2. Overview of Video Needs Higher Heights is seeking an experienced freelance Video Producer and Editor to support our communications and digital programs. This is not a full-time or part-time position and is intended for an individual freelancer or independent contractor and not intended for an agency or firm. The selected producer will work closely with the Communications Department, collaborating with digital, political, and development teams to produce compelling video content across platforms. The role requires strong editorial judgment, technical skill, and the ability to meet tight deadlines, particularly during election cycles. 3. Scope of Work This engagement is designed for a single freelance video producer/editor capable of supporting both routine content needs and high-priority moments. Respondents will be responsible for all taxes, insurance, and statutory obligations associated with independent contractor status. Responsibilities may include: Video Production Producing short- and long-form video content for digital platforms Recording virtual interviews, training sessions, panels, and livestream clips Capturing and producing remote and in-person footage as needed Advising on framing, lighting, and audio for remote participants Video Editing Editing videos for social media, web, and email distribution Creating short clips, reels, and highlights from longer programs Adding graphics, titles, captions, and music consistent with brand guidelines Formatting content for multiple platforms (Instagram, YouTube, X, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok), as well as for web and mobile as needed Storytelling and Editorial Support Translating communications goals into clear video narratives Collaborating on scripts, outlines, and run-of-show materials Maintaining a consistent visual and editorial style 4. Deliverables Deliverables may include: - Short-form social video clips - Long-form interviews or program recordings -Training sessions that include interviews and integration of slides or other visual elements - Captioned videos optimized for accessibility -Platform-specific video formats - Final edited files and raw footage as requested 5. Qualifications Proposals should demonstrate: - Proven experience as a freelance video producer and editor - Strong portfolio of digital-first video content - Experience working with advocacy, nonprofit, or political organizations - Ability to work collaboratively with communications teams - Strong storytelling and editorial instincts - Familiarity with accessibility and captioning best practices - Cultural competency and experience working with Black-led organizations strongly preferred - Experience with video shooting is a plus 6. Tools and Technical Requirements Producers should be proficient with: - Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or comparable editing software - Motion graphics tools (After Effects or similar) a plus - Captioning tools and workflows - Cloud-based file sharing and collaboration platforms 7. Engagement Structure This is not a full-time or part-time role. Higher Heights anticipates engaging a freelance video producer/editor through a retainer or project-based, independent agreement. To reiterate, respondents will be responsible for all taxes, insurance, and statutory obligations associated with independent contractor status. Proposals should outline: - Availability and typical turnaround times - Pricing structure (hourly, per-video, or monthly retainer) - Capacity to support increased volume during key moments 8. Election Year and Surge Period Support During election cycles and major political moments, Higher Heights may require rapid-turn video support. Surge-period work may include: - Candidate endorsements and announcements - Rapid-response videos tied to breaking news - Fundraising and mobilization videos - Election night or results-related content Proposals should describe the producer’s ability to meet accelerated timelines. 9. Diversity, Equity, and Values Alignment Higher Heights is committed to equity, representation, and the leadership of Black women. We strongly encourage proposals from video professionals who share these values and who have experience telling stories rooted in community, dignity, and cultural competence. Proposals may include a brief statement describing: - Experience working with diverse or underrepresented communities - Approach to values-aligned and culturally responsive storytelling 10. Measures of Success High Quality. We are seeking a video producer and editor who can create polished, professional video content that aligns with our mission, brand, and project goals. Video deliverables should demonstrate strong storytelling, technical proficiency, and meet timelines without sacrificing quality. Collaboration. We require a partner who can operate effectively in a fast-moving environment. Success will be measured by proactive communication, responsiveness to feedback, and effective collaboration with the communications team. Audience Engagement. We aim to work with a video producer/editor that can produce thoughtful video content that drives measurable engagement, strengthens brand recognition, and supports organizational goals. Success can be observed through audience feedback, reach, and stakeholder satisfaction. 11.
