Role Description

This is a part-time, voluntary role for an MRICS Counsellor. The MRICS Counsellor will mentor and guide RICS APC candidates through their structured training, advising on competency selection, experience recording, and preparation of submissions. Responsibilities include reviewing candidates’ documentation, providing feedback on case studies and summaries of experience, and conducting or participating in mock interviews. The role involves offering targeted advice on RICS standards and professional ethics, monitoring candidates’ progress, and suggesting development plans to close competency gaps. The MRICS Counsellor will also collaborate with JMCC’s leadership to refine internal APC support materials and share best practices for candidate success.

• MRICS chartered status with proven post-qualification experience in quantity surveying, cost management, or related construction consultancy disciplines.
• Strong understanding of the RICS APC process, including pathways, competencies, submission requirements, and interview structure.
• Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, or supervise early-career professionals, with clear, structured feedback and supportive guidance.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to review and refine professional documentation.
• High level of professional integrity and commitment to RICS ethical standards and best practice.
• Comfort with remote work tools (e.g., video conferencing, shared documents, online scheduling) and managing part-time, flexible availability.
• Previous experience as an APC counsellor, supervisor, or assessor is highly desirable.
