Location: Remote (candidates based in Francophone West Africa, Niger, Central African Republic, Rwanda, Zambia, DRC, or Ethiopia are strongly preferred) About IMACS The Institute for Health Modeling and Climate Solutions (IMACS), hosted by Malaria No More, is a center of excellence dedicated to building predictive intelligence for the world’s most vulnerable health systems. IMACS brings together advanced data science, artificial intelligence, and operational modeling to help countries anticipate , prepare for, and respond to infectious disease threats. Working at the intersection of high-resolution data infrastructure, machine learning, and public health decision-making, IMACS partners with governments and global institutions to strengthen surveillance, sharpen early warning capabilities, and accelerate evidence-driven response. Program Context With funding from the Global Fund and in partnership with The Task Force for Global Health , IMACS is providing structured technical assistance (TA) to strengthen national capacities for climate-sensitive disease early warning surveillance and response. Building on traditional surveillance, outbreak warning, detection and response systems, the TA 3 team will integrate high-resolution climate, meteorological, entomological, hydrological, and environmental data streams with established public health surveillance platforms. This integration will allow more accurate risk mapping, earlier detection windows for potential outbreaks, and proactive response planning. IMACS is seeking a n Epidemiologist with exper ienc e in system integration and digital health architecture. Role Summary IMACS is seeking a n Epidemiologist with public health experience and analytical skills to work with a team of IMACS technical experts and directly with government counterparts, to assess, design, and scale-up country-specific Climate-Informed Early Warning System (CI-EWS). Th is role will conduct robust epidemiological and spatial data analysis; monitor and evaluate existing disease surveillance systems ; and translate epidemiological assessments for decision-makers . The ideal candidate combines strong epidemiological expertise with the ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments and translate technical solutions into practical public health tools. Key Responsibilities Lead high-quality epidemiological analyses to evaluate effectiveness of current interventions, understand disease patterns, and inform strategic planning related to climate and health data. Conduct literature review s on relevant topics as needed (e.g., surveillance approache s, climate-sensitive disease transmission, impact of interventions ). Monitor, evaluate, and improve the performance of country-specific Climate-Informed Early Warning Systems and relevant data platforms Contribute to surveillance guidelines and SOPs, and deliver technical training s at national and sub-national levels . Organize, clean, and integrate datasets from various sources to aid the development of CI-EWS and conduct further analysis as needed . Support the institutionalization of CI-EWS , including the development of data collection tools and dashboards , such as DHIS2 Promote the routine use of epidemiological, weather , and climate data to inform country strategy planning and program implementation. Cultivate and manage partnerships with technical experts, Ministry of Health counterparts, and Global Fund technical assistance organizations. Prepare progress reports documenting achievements, challenges, and lessons learned. Travel internationa lly ( up to 50 % ) t o technical assistance countries as required . Qualifications Masters in public health, epidemiology or related field, or similar experience, with a minimum of 8 years of progressive professional experience in relevant roles. Knowledge of climate-sensitive disease epidemiology ( e.g. malaria, dengue) including the surveillance and evaluation of vector control interventions. Demonstrated expertise in applying research methods to solve global health problems focusing on climate change and infectious diseases. Proven epidemiological or M&E experience in low- and middle- income country (LMIC) settings, with understanding of infrastructure constraints and connectivity challenges. Experience working with datasets drawn from various sources and requiring cleaning before analysis. Experience with data entry, data management, epidemiological analysis and statistic analysis using statistical software (R, STATA and/or other relevant software). Familiarity with the use of geographic data, analysis, and visualization in relevant mapping software ( e.g. ArcGIS, gGIS ) Experience designing, conducting, and analyzing epidemiological surveys. Experience in evaluating, working with, and strengthening surveillance systems. Exceptional ability to communicate across technical and policy audiences, translating complex data concepts into actionable insights for decision-makers. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, including the ability to represent the organization externally and produce compelling materials for diverse audiences. Written and oral fluency in French is highly desirable. Demonstrated ability to build and sustain trusted relationships with senior stakeholders across government, technology, and global health sectors. Willingness and ability to travel internationally. Preferred Qualifications Advanced degree in Epidemiology, Data Science, Public Health , or related field. Experience in programming (e.g., Python, JavaScript) and/or working with surveillance platforms (e.g., DHIS2), data collection tools , and data visualization applications are highly valued. Prior experience in global health, One Health, or data-for-development use cases. Familiarity with data governance frameworks (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA) and cybersecurity best practices relevant to health data. Experience designing and delivering technical training programs, bootcamps, or capacity-building initiatives. Strong familiarity with the current landscape of AI and data analytics tools applied to public health.
