Role Overview
I am the Fractional CFO of multiple real estate and other industry companies. One of my client's needs a Corporate Controller (part time or full time). The Corporate Controller will oversee all corporate and regional accounting functions, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting across multiple entities. This includes full ownership of the monthly close, financial statements, consolidations, cash flow reporting, and transaction‑related accounting for brokerage operations. The Controller will also lead FP&A activities, including budgeting, forecasting, and executive‑level financial analysis.
This is a hands‑on leadership role requiring strong technical accounting depth, excellent communication skills, and the ability to build scalable processes in a growing organization.
Key Responsibilities
Corporate Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for corporate and regional entities.
- Prepare accurate financial statements with supporting schedules, ensuring GAAP compliance.
- Oversee consolidations, intercompany allocations, adjustments, and multi‑entity reporting.
- Maintain and enhance internal controls, accounting policies, and compliance standards.
- Serve as the primary contact for external auditors and tax advisors.
- Ensure proper maintenance and documentation of all general ledger accounts.
Brokerage & Transaction Accounting
- Oversee accounting for brokerage operations, including commission processing and commission receivables.
- Manage transaction‑related reporting and ensure compliance with brokerage agreements and third‑party contracts.
- Monitor cost recoveries and transaction‑related expenses.
- Coordinate with asset managers, owners, and internal teams on financial reporting and funding requests.
- Support transaction‑level analysis and reporting as needed.
FP&A, Cash Flow & Executive Reporting
- Prepare monthly actual vs. budget analyses and variance explanations.
- Build and maintain cash flow projections, reforecasts, and financial models.
- Develop KPIs, dashboards, and metrics to support executive decision‑making.
- Lead annual budgeting and planning processes.
- Provide actionable insights and recommendations based on financial performance trends.
Team Leadership & Process Improvement
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff; establish clear expectations and development plans.
- Evaluate and streamline accounting systems, AP/AR processes, and reporting tools.
- Drive automation, efficiency, and scalability across accounting and FP&A functions.
- Lead special projects, system enhancements, and cross‑functional initiatives.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles within a real estate operating company, brokerage, or REIT.
- CPA strongly preferred; BA/BS in Accounting or Finance required.
- Deep technical knowledge of GAAP, consolidations, and multi‑entity structures.
- Strong FP&A capabilities, including modeling, forecasting, and executive‑level reporting.
- Experience with MRI, Yardi, Excel, and financial reporting systems.
- Proven ability to manage teams and build scalable processes.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to partner effectively across departments.
- High integrity, strong work ethic, and a proactive, solutions‑oriented mindset.
