Role Description: Associate Director
Reports to: Executive Director
Location: Remote
Terms: Part time, voluntary
Purpose of the Role
The Associate Director supports the Executive Director in leading Planet Watch’s mission of climate storytelling, education, and community engagement. This role bridges strategic leadership and program delivery — ensuring that the organization’s initiatives are cohesive, well‑managed, and aligned with its values of youth empowerment, collaboration, and climate justice.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic and Operational Leadership
- Collaborate with the Executive Director on organizational strategy and planning.
- Oversee day‑to‑day operations and ensure smooth coordination among departments.
- Support the development of internal systems and performance tracking.
2. Program Oversight and Team Coordination
- Supervise and mentor program leads (Partnerships & Outreach, Learning Programs, Communications & Advocacy, Volunteer Systems).
- Ensure program alignment with Planet Watch’s educational and advocacy priorities.
- Facilitate collaboration between teams to maximize impact and resource efficiency.
3. External Relations and Representation
- Represent Planet Watch in meetings, events, and partnerships when delegated.
- Strengthen relationships with schools, NGOs, and community networks.
- Support the Executive Director in donor and stakeholder engagement.
4. Organizational Development & People Management
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and learning‑oriented organizational culture.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and volunteer engagement processes.
- Contribute to staff development and succession planning.
5. Governance & Reporting
- Prepare updates and reports for the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies and standards.
- Participate in strategic planning and governance discussions.
Qualifications & Attributes
Essential
- Minimum 5 years’ leadership experience in nonprofit, education, or climate‑related sectors.
- Strong project management and team coordination skills.
- Excellent communication and relationship‑building abilities.
- Commitment to climate justice, youth engagement, and collaborative leadership.
Preferred
- Experience in climate education, advocacy, or community outreach.
- Familiarity with hybrid or volunteer‑based organizational structures.
- Comfort working across cultures and international networks.

- Knowledge of environmental issues such as climate change and sustainable practices to align activities with the organization's objectives.
- Leadership and collaboration skills to manage teams and build partnerships effectively.
- Proficiency in digital tools and platforms for managing online content and resources.
- Passion for environmental advocacy and a commitment to inspiring positive action.
- Experience in non-profit leadership or administration is a plus.
- A degree in Environmental Science, Public Policy, Non-Profit Management, or a related field is beneficial but not mandatory.
