Whiteroom has positioned itself as one of the premier guiding operations across Northern Japan. From our multiple areas of operation, we are looking for experienced snow professionals that can show a proven track record of leading groups and working in uncontrolled avalanche terrain. A desire to work alongside a tight team will be required whilst also having the ability to think independently as scenarios change. Whiteroom’s bases in Hokkaido are located in the world-famous Niseko and the more local setting of Furano. Out of either base a Whiteroom Guide can expect to monitor local weather and snowpack conditions to guide our clients on anything from lift-accessed backcountry days or full days touring alongside possibly guiding any of our multi-day tours. A Whiteroom Guide will need to combine all the relevant hard skills for the role with a strong customer-focused approach to deliver great experiences both on and off snow. Details Available Mid December 2026 to Mid March 2027 Position Requirements: Guide experience and qualifications preferred. Professional Operations / Pro Level 1 or equivalent avalanche terrain management qualification, level 2 is preferred. Previous experience working in Hokkaido is preferred but not essential Minimum of current 40 hours of first aid qualification Expert-level skiing or snowboarding Strong leadership and communication skills Good work ethic and dependable Able to work long hours, holidays, weekends, and nights when required Customer service focus and a track record of delivering on customer expectations in the ski industry. Full driver’s license with the ability to obtain a D stamp on an International Driver's Permit (IDP). Great attitude, positive mindset, and the ability to adapt to any situation Team Player The ability to get a Japanese working holiday visa or experience/qualifications to gain a skilled labor visa. Experience: 3 to 5 years of previous experience working in a snow safety operation. Skills: High level of English communication Some basic Japanese preferred but not essential High level of on-snow backcountry, mountain, guiding ski or snowboard experience Weather analysis Snow science and snow pit analysis Terrain, map, GPS & compass reading Risk mitigation High level of first aid & rescue skills High level of customer service and excellent hosting abilities Ability to work well in a team Group organization & leadership skills Ability to maintain a safe environment ensuring appropriate company procedures & protocols are adhered to.
