Senior Software Engineer — Generative Expert Labs (GXL) About GXL Generative Expert Labs (GXL) is building the next generation of AI-native tools for scientific discovery. We're a fast-moving team that ships products that agents and humans love, and we're looking for engineers who want to disrupt the existing agentic ecosystem. The Role We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help build and scale the systems that power GXL's AI products (eg. Paperclip). You'll work across the data backend stack — from designing resilient data infrastructure and pipelines to building the services and tooling that keep our systems fast, reliable, and production-ready. If you enjoy owning systems end-to-end, care about performance, and want to work close to cutting-edge AI, this role is for you. What You'll Do - Architect and build backend systems and services that support AI-powered products at scale - Design and maintain data pipelines and infrastructure that move, transform, and serve data reliably across the stack - Own system performance: identify bottlenecks, optimize throughput, and ensure reliability under load - Drive architectural decisions and contribute to engineering standards across the team What We're Looking For - 5+ years of software engineering experience with a strong backend focus - Solid foundation in systems design — you think about scalability, reliability, and maintainability by default - Experience building and operating data pipelines or data-intensive systems in production - Strong Python and/or another backend language - Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and how to build on top of it - Comfort working with databases at scale — schema design, query performance, and storage tradeoffs - Experience with workflow or job orchestration systems Nice to Have - Hands-on experience building systems that integrate with LLMs or other AI/ML models - Familiarity with vector databases, embedding pipelines, or retrieval systems - Experience with streaming or event-driven architectures - Prior experience in a senior, lead, or staff-level engineering role What We Offer - Competitive salary and equity - Small, high-ownership team — your work will have immediate impact - Visa sponsorship
