SENIOR LECTURER/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR African Institute of Financial Markets & Risk Management (AIFMRM) Faculty of Commerce The African Institute of Financial Markets & Risk Management (AIFMRM) in the Faculty of Commerce at the University of Cape Town invites applications for a permanent academic appointment at Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor level. AIFMRM is a leading centre for research and teaching in quantitative finance, financial markets, and risk management. The Institute offers specialised postgraduate programmes and sustains strong links with the financial services sector. AIFMRM brings together academic researchers and industry practitioners to advance the study of financial markets and risk management in Africa and globally. The Institute is supported by private sector partners from the South African financial services sector. We seek to appoint scholars who demonstrate research excellence, strong quantitative expertise, and a commitment to high-quality teaching and postgraduate supervision. The successful candidate will contribute to the Institute’s postgraduate teaching programmes and research activities and will participate in the development of the Institute’s academic and industry engagement initiatives. Requirements for the position: Senior Lecturer A PhD in quantitative finance, financial mathematics, financial risk management, or a closely related quantitative discipline. At least 3 years of teaching experience. Evidence of experience in supervising research. Strong quantitative and analytical skills relevant to the study of financial markets and risk management. Evidence of active research, including publications in peer-reviewed journals. A record of presenting research findings at conferences. Associate Professor In addition to the above, candidates appointed at Associate Professor level would be required to have: An established research record with publications in leading peer-reviewed journals. Indication of international research standing and visibility. Evidence of current Master’s and PhD supervision. Teaching experience at postgraduate level. Experience in academic leadership, administration and management. The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate some or all the following The ability to contribute to curriculum development and delivery in postgraduate programmes. The ability to develop and sustain a research programme in areas aligned with the Institute’s focus. Experience in collaborative research, in particular with financial sector partners. Knowledge of emerging developments in financial markets, quantitative finance, and risk management. A commitment to innovative and effective teaching practices. Strong interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills. Remuneration Salaries are based on the University of Cape Town’s standard Cost of Employment (COE) structure for academic staff. Academic staff in AIFMRM receive a 20% Scarcity Allowance above the standard COE.
