Senior Metallurgical Engineer

Summary:
We are partnering with a renowned and growing manufacturer to recruit a hands-on Senior Metallurgical Engineer. This role provides technical leadership and metallurgical expertise for industrial projects, combining laboratory work, failure analysis, and support for manufacturing operations, product performance, and materials investigations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead failure analysis investigations, including mechanical overload, fatigue, fracture, wear, and manufacturing defects.
- Evaluate corrosion mechanisms affecting piping systems, including general, galvanic, pitting, crevice, MIC, erosion-corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking.
- Develop root cause conclusions and support corrective and preventive actions.
- Provide metallurgical support for manufacturing, quality, and product engineering.
- Support welding and joining processes, including evaluation of weld quality, microstructures, and failures.
- Operate metallurgical and analytical equipment such as SEM, EDS, LIBS, and optical microscopy.
- Evaluate mechanical properties, heat treatments, microstructures, phase transformations, and coatings.
- Assist in product development and improvements.
- Prepare clear, detailed technical reports and documentation.
- Mentor laboratory technicians and less-experienced engineers.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, quality, supply chain, and operations teams.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, or a related field (Master’s or PhD preferred).
- 10+ years of progressive metallurgical experience in manufacturing or industrial environments.
- Strong expertise in piping systems, metallic materials, corrosion, and failure analysis.
- Hands-on proficiency with metallography, mechanical testing, SEM, EDS, and LIBS.
- Experience supporting casting, forging, machining, heat treatment, coating, or welding operations preferred.
- Familiarity with ASTM, ISO, NACE/AMPP standards desirable.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
Travel: ~15% for field or materials-related support
