Job Title: Mechanical Shop Supervisor / Fleet Manager Location: Whitehorse, Yukon About the Role: At Cobalt Construction, we don’t just build roads — we build the North. Proudly based in Whitehorse and 100% locally owned, we take on some of the Yukon’s toughest construction projects with grit, teamwork, and experience. Our mechanical shop is the backbone of our operations, keeping equipment field-ready across a variety of projects. We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Shop Supervisor / Fleet Manager to lead shop operations, oversee fleet maintenance, and provide hands-on support when needed. This is a leadership role that balances planning, diagnostics, and mentoring in a fast-paced northern construction environment. Key Responsibilities: Lead, mentor, and supervise a skilled team of mechanics and apprentices Liaise between job sites, managers, and shop personnel Assign, prioritize, and oversee repairs, maintenance, and emergency work Coordinate fleet maintenance schedules, preventive maintenance, and field support Diagnose complex mechanical issues and support technicians as needed Provide accurate cost and time estimates for service, repairs, and parts Maintain service records, fleet tracking systems, and inventory control Plan, implement, and track service strategies and continuous improvement initiatives Standardize, document, and improve shop and fleet management processes Ensure compliance with safety programs, training, and environmental standards Work closely with project teams to keep equipment operational and field-ready Qualifications & Requirements: Minimum 5 years’ experience in heavy equipment maintenance with supervisory or service management responsibility Red Seal Certification (Heavy Equipment Technician or Automotive Technician) preferred, or equivalent experience Proven leadership experience in a shop or field-based environment Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills across heavy trucks, trailers, light vehicles, and heavy equipment Experience with fleet management and maintenance software Knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems Experience in cold weather / Arctic / Sub-Arctic operations Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence (Class 1 or 3 is a strong asset) Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications Must be legally entitled to work in Canada Work Schedule & Details: Full-time, year-round position Competitive wages and overtime opportunities Extended health benefits available for full-time staff Relocation assistance, accommodation, and vehicle provided (where applicable) Ongoing training and career advancement opportunities Work in a tight-knit, experienced team on high-impact northern projects
