We are looking for an experienced Java Architect to lead the design and evolution of enterprise-scale applications within a complex, fast-paced technology environment. This role combines solution architecture, technical leadership, and hands-on engineering involvement across large modernisation and digital transformation programmes. You will play a key role in shaping scalable, secure, and maintainable platforms while supporting the adoption of modern engineering standards, Agile delivery practices, and cloud-aligned technologies. The position offers the opportunity to influence technical direction, mentor development teams, and drive high-quality solution delivery across critical systems. Key Responsibilities Define and evolve application architecture aligned with business and technology objectives Produce high-level and low-level technical designs for enterprise applications and platform enhancements Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions and realistic delivery estimates Perform technical impact assessments and identify implementation dependencies and risks Lead architecture governance activities including design reviews, code quality oversight, and technical standards enforcement Drive end-to-end technical delivery across development, integration, deployment, and release activities Support the implementation of CI/CD practices and deployment automation initiatives Guide engineering teams on best practices relating to scalability, performance, maintainability, and security Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders including engineering, QA, DevOps, and product teams Mentor developers and provide technical leadership across complex delivery streams Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and Agile delivery processes Required Technical Experience Backend Technologies Strong hands-on experience developing enterprise applications using Java Extensive experience with the Spring ecosystem, including Spring Boot and related frameworks Strong understanding of RESTful service design and backend integration patterns Solid expertise working with Oracle databases, including SQL optimisation and PL/SQL development Experience with ORM technologies such as Hibernate or JPA Exposure to enterprise application runtime environments and middleware platforms Experience with build automation tools such as Maven or Gradle Familiarity with automated testing frameworks including JUnit and Mockito Strong understanding of version control practices using Git-based repositories Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and deployment tooling Experience working with JSON, XML, and related integration technologies Frontend Technologies Strong proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript Experience developing modern web applications using React or comparable frameworks Understanding of component-based UI architecture and reusable frontend design patterns Solid knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, and responsive web development Experience integrating frontend applications with REST APIs and backend services Familiarity with frontend tooling, package management, and build processes Understanding of accessibility principles and inclusive design standards Exposure to frontend testing frameworks and UI quality practices Preferred Skills & Experience Full-stack development exposure across both backend and frontend technologies Experience working on application modernisation or digital transformation initiatives Understanding of cloud-native development approaches and distributed systems architecture Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and performance optimisation capabilities Familiarity with monitoring, logging, and operational support best practices Experience working within highly regulated or enterprise-scale environments Ability to influence engineering standards and mentor technical teams Personal Attributes Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities Ability to lead technical discussions and make informed architectural decisions Collaborative approach with a focus on engineering excellence Passion for continuous learning and technology innovation Salary dependent on candidate experience.
