About the Role
The PLC & Automation Controls Engineer will design, build, and optimize automation and robotic control systems within a small, dedicated engineering group.
This role focuses on new robotic system design, automation upgrades, and performance optimization. You’ll develop PLC logic, HMI interfaces, and networked control architectures that integrate seamlessly with robotic subsystems and electrical automation equipment.
You will report directly to the Engineering Manager.
Desired Skills / Experience
PLC & Automation Engineering
- Hands‐on experience with PLC system design (siemens, A.B. or similar), programming, and troubleshooting; strong proficiency in Ladder Logic.
- Ability to design control architectures for robotic cells, automated machinery, or motion‐centric systems.
HMI Development
- Experience with HMI software including customization, configuration, and system connectivity.
- Experience with Intellution (iFIX) or Wonderware (InTouch) is a plus.
Electrical Power & Systems Design
- Ability to interpret OR design electro-mechanical schematics using Electrical AutoCAD.
Industrial Networking & Connectivity
- Experience configuring and integrating industrial networks such as EtherNet/IP, Profinet, EtherCAT, Modbus RTU, CANopen, or similar.
- Understanding of how robotic controllers, PLCs, HMIs, and peripheral devices communicate in a real‐time environment with movement and motion parameters.
Robotics Experience (Strong Plus Or Must be willing to learn)
- Experience integrating or supporting robotic systems (industrial arms, gantry robots, mobile robots, or automated material‐handling systems).
- Exposure to robotic programming, motion control, safety systems, or cell integration is highly desirable.
- Experience designing automation systems for robot‐enabled production lines is a major advantage.
Professional Skills
- Highly detail‐oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience designing or building automation systems for external clients/customers is a plus.
Education
- College Degree in a Related Engineering Discipline (EE, Mechanical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical or similar
Travel
- This role will require up to 30% travel
