About JOI gaming JOI gaming is a licensed operator in the regulated Dutch iGaming market, delivering safe and responsible gaming experiences. Operating under a license issued by the Kansspelautoriteit, JOI gaming combines strong local market expertise with an international operational footprint headquartered in Malta. Role Overview The Director of Legal & Compliance will be based in Malta and will lead all legal, regulatory, and compliance activities related to JOI gaming’s Dutch-licensed operations. This role is responsible for ensuring full compliance with the Remote Gambling Act (Wet Kansspelen op Afstand), while embedding best-in-class compliance frameworks across the organization. The role requires close coordination between Malta-based teams and Dutch regulatory stakeholders, including the Kansspelautoriteit. Key Responsibilities Legal Leadership Lead all legal activities from the Malta headquarters, supporting Dutch operations Provide strategic legal advice to the executive team and board Oversee contracts, partnerships, and disputes Compliance & Regulatory Oversight Ensure ongoing compliance with Dutch iGaming regulations and license conditions Maintain and enhance compliance frameworks, policies, and internal controls Monitor regulatory developments in the Netherlands and EU Cross-Border Governance Bridge Malta-based operations with Dutch regulatory requirements Ensure effective implementation of compliance policies across all teams Coordinate regulatory reporting and audits across jurisdictions Risk Management & AML Oversee AML/KYC frameworks in line with EU and Dutch standards Conduct internal audits and ensure remediation of findings Responsible Gaming & Player Protection Ensure full adherence to responsible gaming obligations Oversee policies linked to CRUKS and duty-of-care requirements Drive a culture of player protection and ethical operations Data Protection & Privacy Ensure compliance with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Oversee data privacy governance and incident management Leadership Lead a high-performing Legal & Compliance team in Malta Act as a key advisor to senior leadership across departments Qualifications & Experience Master’s degree in Law (Dutch qualification strongly preferred) 10+ years of experience in legal/compliance roles within iGaming or other regulated sectors Strong expertise in the Remote Gambling Act would be preferred Experience operating in a cross-border (Malta–EU) regulatory environment Deep understanding of AML, KYC, and GDPR Leadership experience managing teams Key Competencies Ability to operate across jurisdictions and regulatory frameworks Strong stakeholder management (internal and external) Strategic mindset with hands-on execution capability High ethical standards and integrity Additional Requirements Must be based in Malta (or willing to relocate) Ability to travel occasionally to the Netherlands Fluency in English required; Dutch is highly desirable Why Join JOI gaming?
