As a Development Engineer at Canadian Natural, you will play a key role in optimizing thermal production using SAGD, steam flood, and CSS depletion methods. You will work within a dynamic, collaborative team of geoscientists, production engineers, and field staff, applying proven subsurface engineering methods and field operations in an environment that encourages innovation. In this role, you will deliver technical and economic evaluations supporting existing and future assets and implement optimized recovery methods to sustain and grow production in an environmentally sustainable manner. * Job location: Calgary, Alberta * Shift schedule: 5 x 2, 8-hour shifts (Monday – Friday) * Safety sensitive position: Yes * Application deadline: June 12, 2026 Key Accountabilities: * Work in a team environment to identify opportunities and create depletion and/or development plans to maximize the net present value (NPV) of the project * Monitor and optimize reservoir performance and recovery strategies for Canadian Natural assets * Provide effective regular project updates and technical evaluation reports for senior management * Design and justify potential workovers, steam and depletion plans, operational and reservoir targets * Maintain and update monthly and annual production forecasts for thermal wells using various technical and analytical methods, including input into budget, 10-year plan forecasts, and corporate reserves * Ensure the incorporation of relevant regulatory and environmental requirements for asset development plans What You Bring to the Role: * 3+ years of engineering experience with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and registration or eligibility for registration with APEGA (petroleum industry experience is considered an asset) * Demonstrated problem solving, communication, organization and leadership skills * Basic knowledge of thermal assets and/or related disciplines of drilling, completions and facilities engineering * Experience with data analytics and visualization tools would be an asset (e.g. Tableau, Power BI, Spotfire, Python) * Practical experience with economic analysis and project management would be an asset What We Offer: * Competitive salary, stock options, company matched stock savings plan, annual bonuses * May be eligible for relocation pursuant to Canadian Natural’s Relocation Policy * 100% Employer paid extended Health, Dental and Vision Benefits * Health & Wellness Spending Account * Multiple volunteer opportunities within the community * Employee & Family Assistance Program * Access to online learning platforms for continuous learning and development * Paid vacation and time off during Christmas week and summer Fridays Check out our COMPENSATION & BENEFITS [https://www.cnrl.com/content/uploads/2024/03/Compensation-and-Benefits-Experienced.pdf] to learn more about what we have to offer!
