Job Overview
The Community Consultant Paediatrician plays a key role in delivering high-quality, family-centred care to children and young people across community settings within Hywel Dda University Health Board. The role focuses on the assessment, diagnosis and management of developmental, neurodevelopmental and complex health needs, working closely with multidisciplinary and multi-agency partners across health, education and social care.
This is a senior clinical position combining expert practice, leadership and service development, with opportunities to shape and improve community paediatric services across the Health Board. The post holder will have a strong focus on teaching, training and professional development, including supporting medical students and postgraduate trainees, alongside opportunities to engage in research and quality improvement.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will:
Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties.
We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services.
We work in partnership with the three local authorities, as well as public, private and third sector colleagues, including our valued team of volunteers.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will:
- Deliver specialist care to children and young people in community settings, including the assessment, diagnosis and management of developmental, neurodevelopmental and complex conditions
- Play a key role in neurodevelopmental services, including ADHD and autism pathways
- Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary and multi-agency teams, including health, education and social care
- Support the safeguarding of vulnerable children, including looked-after children and those with additional needs
- Provide clinical leadership, supporting and supervising junior medical staff and wider team members
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of community paediatric services across the Health Board
- Participate in teaching and training, supporting medical students, trainees and multidisciplinary colleagues
- Engage in audit, quality improvement and research, ensuring evidence-based practice
- Contribute to service planning and strategic development, supporting ongoing innovation across the service

- Five community hospitals: Amman Valley and Llandovery hospitals in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron Hospital in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire hospitals in Pembrokeshire
- Two integrated care centres: Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion, and several other community settings
- 47 general practices (six of which are health board managed practices); dental practices (including four orthodontic); 97 community pharmacies; 43 general ophthalmic practices; and 8 ophthalmic domiciliary providers
- Numerous mental health and learning disabilities services
