Job Summary
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Sarcoma Nursing Team is seeking an experienced and compassionate Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our service. This role is ideal for a motivated nurse who is committed to delivering high-quality, person-centred care and improving the experience of people living with Sarcoma whilst also caring for patients with benign disease such as Desmoid Fibromatosis/Schwannoma.
We are a regional centre and care for, support and co-ordinate care for sarcoma patients in the West Midlands and further afield.
The postholder will provide specialist nursing support at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, caring for patients with curative and metastatic disease, whilst working closely with multidisciplinary teams.
This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference by supporting patients and families with empathy, respect, and excellence throughout the cancer pathway.
The specialist nurse will have knowledge and skills in surgery and/ or oncology and supporting those receiving palliative care.
There are two 12-month, fixed term/secondment posts available - one full time and one part time (30 hours per week).
Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required
The postholder will deliver a specialist service acting as an advocate for the patient diagnosed with a sarcoma within a wider nursing team. They will provide expert clinical advice, information, emotional support which aims to empower patients to make informed decisions throughout their care.
The role involves advanced communication, symptom management, close collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams, alongside contributing to service development and quality improvement. Applicants must have a significant post registration experience with demonstrable experience in oncology and/or Sarcoma surgical nursing. Experience in systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT), palliative care and managing advancing disease is desirable. Excellent communication skills, flexibility and a strong commitment to compassionate, patient-focused care are essential.
