The Division Director is an inspirational and aspirational leader who will drive clinical excellence and advance the academic mandate of the division. They will provide strategic and operational leadership for the division’s clinical, educational, research, and administrative activities, including program development, faculty mentorship and development, quality improvement initiatives, and interdisciplinary collaboration in the delivery of geriatric care. Applicants must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto and will fulfill the academic position description of a Clinician Teacher, Clinician Educator, Clinician Quality Innovator, Clinician Investigator, or Clinician Scientist. Assistant Professors with demonstrated leadership experience relevant to the role may also be considered. The position is expected to involve approximately 60–70% clinical responsibilities, including inpatient and outpatient geriatric medicine care, with the remaining 30–40% dedicated to academic, leadership, and administrative responsibilities aligned with the successful candidate’s academic role description. The expected start date is August 1, 2026, or a mutually agreed-upon date. The successful candidate will hold an MD degree and have, or be eligible for, certification in Geriatric Medicine by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). The successful candidate will be a respected scholar who has an outstanding reputation in clinical research, education or knowledge translation. They will have demonstrated clinical excellence in geriatric medicine. They will have sophisticated interpersonal and communication skills to foster collaborative working relationships across the organization and with partners, including the University of Toronto. The primary location of practice is Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, 2075 Bayview Avenue, Toronto, Ontario. Canada. Proficiency in English is required. The successful candidate will report to the Physician-in-Chief at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. They will lead the division of Geriatric Medicine, which currently comprises 7 full-time academic geriatricians. The outpatient geriatric services are delivered in the Peter Cipriano Centre for Seniors Health. Opened in October 2025, this 13,000 sq. ft. centre is designed both as a physical space that optimizes the experience of older patients, and as the home of Sunnybrook’s specialized geriatric services program, delivering evidence-based interdisciplinary care that is integrated across Sunnybrook. Services include a variety of clinics, geriatric day hospital, outreach service, subspeciality clinics and audiology. Estimated remuneration will be in the range of $300,000 - 400,000 (fee for service/alternate funding plan estimate) commensurate with academic rank, qualifications and experience and we expect the candidate to be eligible for the Ontario Geriatric Medicine AFP. The successful candidate will be a member of the Sunnybrook Department of Medicine Association through which clinical billings and benefits will be administered. Relocation costs may be included.
