About The Role
As a Video Editor at Backroads, you will play a pivotal role in bringing our travel stories to life through compelling visual content. Your primary responsibility will be transforming raw footage—captured by guests, trip leaders, and photographers worldwide—into polished, engaging videos that inspire and resonate with our audience. This role is centered on post-production, focusing on editing high-quality short- and mid-form videos optimized for social media platforms, websites, YouTube, and paid advertising channels. You will ensure each piece aligns with Backroads’ brand voice and visual style, effectively communicating the spirit of adventure and exploration that defines our company.
This position does not involve fieldwork or travel; instead, it emphasizes creative editing, asset management, and collaboration with cross-functional teams, including marketing, social media, and content departments. Your work will directly contribute to the company’s marketing and storytelling efforts, helping to showcase the beauty and excitement of our trips while maintaining a well-organized video library for ongoing content needs. Success in this role involves consistently producing engaging, on-brand videos at scale, managing multiple projects efficiently, and supporting the company’s overall content strategy.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience editing digital video content in a fast-paced environment
- Strong storytelling instincts with the ability to craft narratives from existing footage
- Experience creating content for social media, YouTube, websites, and paid channels
- Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro; experience with After Effects or motion graphics is a plus
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage large volumes of media files
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience working collaboratively with marketing, social media, or brand teams
- Background or interest in travel, outdoor activities, lifestyle, or sports content is advantageous
Responsibilities
- Review, organize, and select footage from a variety of sources including guest videos, trip leader footage, and staff contributions
- Edit short- and mid-form videos optimized for social media, web, YouTube, and paid advertising channels
- Enhance raw footage through color correction, stabilization, audio editing, and other post-production techniques
- Adapt single pieces of footage into multiple platform-specific versions to maximize reach and engagement
- Maintain consistency in brand voice and visual style across all video content
- Manage and organize the video asset library, ensuring easy retrieval and proper archiving
- Develop and implement tagging and storage practices for incoming media assets
- Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to support additional editing or production needs
- Provide guidance to staff on capturing usable footage to improve content quality
- Track project progress using tools like Jira and participate in weekly production meetings
