Store Manager Apply Apply Description INTRODUCTION: The purpose of this functional job description is to establish and define the basic functions, authority, reporting relationships, accountability, job requirements, standards of performance and a performance review of a STORE MANAGER for TFI Enterprises Inc/Thrifty Florist. BASIC FUNCTIONS: The basic functions of a STORE MANAGER shall consist of but not be limited to the following: To ensure that the store meets its revenue and gross margin objectives in the sale of all merchandise. To maintain all merchandise and related displays, shelves and other assorted materials in accordance with prescribed layouts established by the District Manager and the Vice-President of Operations, in order to provide an attractive area which is conducive to sales. To provide input into the ordering of merchandise in order to prevent stock out conditions, to ensure that selected merchandise is desired by customers, and preventing excessive quantities of inventory to be retained on the shelves and in storage areas. To ensure that an open line of communication and an efficient paper flow exists with the Materials Manager and the Warehouse Manger in order that scheduled deliveries to the store from the warehouse are coordinated and completed in an accurate and timely manner To orientate, supervise and train sales, design and cashier personnel who are hired or assigned to the store in close coordination with the Training Coordinator.. To identify key personnel to perform as a “back-up” and to be “in charge” during any absence of the Manager from the store. To ensure that money and banking requirements are completed daily in an accurate and timely manner. To schedule the daily work requirements of all assigned personnel. To operate the store within budgeted guidelines, i.e., payroll and cost of goods. To ensure that the store is kept clean and free of debris both inside and outside at all times and the store is visually appealing to customers. To ensure that all employees comply with established levels of customer service. To assist in the setting up and taking down of inside and outside displays. To resolve internal operating and personnel problems without due involvement with a District Manager. To communicate with and meet with the assigned District Manager and the VP of Operations at least weekly. To ensure that store employees are kept informed of store and company happenings via short, “stand up” meetings held daily . AUTHORITY: A STORE MANAGER is selected and appointed by the District Manager in conjunction with the Vice-President of Operations and is delegated sufficient authority to successfully accomplish the tasks, duties, responsibilities and special assignments that are assigned to this function. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS AND ACCOUNTABILITY: A STORE MANAGER shall report directly to and be accountable to, an assigned District Manager. Reporting directly to and accountable to the STORE MANAGER are the following functions: The Assistant Manager Sales Associates Designers Delivery Personnel (when assigned) Qualifications JOB REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent – required Trade school, a four year college, or at least three years of hands-on, on the job training in the following areas is preferred: Floral design Personnel Management Interior Design Marketing / Merchandising Business Management EXPERIENCE: A minimum of three years of hands on, successful experience in face to face retail sales preferably in the retail floral business is required. A minimum of two years of hands on supervisory experience (preferably in a Thrifty Florist retail outlet) in a floral retail outlet or similar retail position is required. Two or more years of successful, hands on experience in the design and preparation of floral arrangements is required. Two or more years of successful, hands on experience in merchandising and displaying sales items is required. Two or more years of hands on experience in the following areas are preferred: Inventory control Single or Multiple Store Management Purchasing / Buying Merchandise pricing Personnel Management SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Must have the ability, skill and knowledge required to demonstrate effective management, sales and communications skills and to operate an assigned store in a profitable, efficient and cost effective manner. Must be knowledgeable of all aspects of the floral retail business. Must have the ability to understand and react to customer needs. Must have the skill, knowledge and ability to influence customer buying decisions and to close a sale successfully. Must have some knowledge of advertising and promotion processes that will assist in the sales of store merchandise. Must be knowledgeable of and skilled in the safe and efficient use of a folding design knife. Must be knowledgeable of skilled in the construction and demolition of brick and board displays. Must become thoroughly knowledgeable of and skilled in the use of company computer systems including software and hardware. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be in good physical health, have a good sense of smell and touch, have good vision and cannot be colorblind. Must have a high degree of stamina as this supervisor is in constant motion during the work day. Must have a high degree of hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity that are frequently required in the preparation of floral arrangements, assembly of products and in other similar processes. Must have a full range of bodily motion as much sitting, walking, bending at the waist, kneeling, stooping, squatting, jumping, crawling, grasping, reaching, writing, typing on computer keyboards, grasping, using hands and fingers, handling, lifting, pushing rolling carts, running, twisting of the body, throwing, and hand stocking of shelves and display areas are daily requirements of the job. Must be able to climb and descend a variety of stairs and ladders unassisted and to use ladders in a safe manner. Must have a good sense of balance and no fear of heights as work is sometimes required to be performed on a ladder or scaffolding several feet above the ground or floor. Must be able to lift bulky objects that sometimes exceed 50 pounds in weight above the waist. Must have good hearing and have good physical coordination. Must have a loud and clear voice that can be heard over typical noises created in a busy retail store. Must be able to speak in a voice that is easily understandable via telephone and cell phone. Must be able to speak clearly and distinctly to large and small audiences. Must be able to operate an automobile or truck in a safe and efficient manner. Must be able to use and operate standard office equipment, computers, printers, etc., in an efficient and correct manner. INTELLECTUAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to perform basic and advanced mathematical calculations in an accurate and timely manner. Must have good short and long-term memory. Must be detail oriented and accustomed to close follow up on all work activities. Must be able to make accurate and timely decisions. Must be able to direct the activities of others in an efficient and understandable manner and to build and maintain close interpersonal relationships. Must be able to visualize the big picture as many small elements are involved in the development of a completed project. Must be able to perform a variety of tasks in an accurate and timely manner. COMMUNICATION REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to read, write, speak and otherwise communicate well in the English language. Must be able to receive and understand instructions from others. Must be able to give instructions in an understandable manner to others. Will be required to communicate in a personal, face-to-face manner with company employees, management, customers, and others in a cordial and professional manner on a daily basis. WORKING CONDITIONS: There is a “no days off” policy in effect during the week prior to the following holidays and including the holiday itself : Valentines Day, Easter, Secretary’s Day, Mother’s day, Memorial Day, Sweetest Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Evening. In addition, there will be no vacation days granted during the months of November, December, May and June of each year. A Store Manager is required to work a minimum of fifty(50) hours per week. In addition, all Sundays that fall between Thanksgiving Day and Christmas day shall be considered as a normal work day. May be required to work irregular hours at various times throughout the year. Must be able to work alone and as a member of a group or team in an efficient and timely manner. Must be able to work efficiently in a stressful situation cased by having to meet deadlines and emergency situations. Must be able to perform in a high-speed manner accurately. Must be able to perform a variety of duties and also perform routine, repetitive tasks in an accurate and timely manner. May be required to operate a vehicle in order to get from store to the corporate office and for other routine daily business in a safe and efficient manner. May be required to wear prescribed safety clothing and use approved safety equipment on the job. Must be able and skilled to work with a folding design knife and various types of flower c utters and shears on a daily basis in a safe and efficient manner. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS Some work will be performed in a retail flower/gift store setting that is climatically controlled and well lighted. The work is usually not hazardous but established safety rules and regulations must be followed closely to avoid injury as one may encounter water, clutter, debris, boxes and similar obstructions on the floors. Some work will be performed at an outside sales area if such an area is available at the assigned store. When working outside one will be exposed to extremes in heat and cold and to various typed of fumes, dust, airborne particles, odors, loud noises and to vehicles and equipment with moving parts. Some work will be performed away from the store facility, i.e. working with special events, weddings etc. and making deliveries. In these instances one may be required to operate a vehicle in traveling to and from the store to the site and therefore must observe all safety requirements when on a work site and practice defensive driving techniques when operating a vehicle.
