About the Role As a Senior Software Engineer on the Platform Engineering team, you'll help transform cutting-edge research into scalable, production-grade software used by engineers, machinists, and customers alike. You’ll work across services and systems — from CAD and mesh pipelines to simulation infrastructure and web APIs — to build the core backend and data services that power Atomic’s platform. This role is ideal for generalists who are excited to work across disciplines and take ownership of complex, high-impact systems. What You’ll Do Design and implement scalable backend systems and APIs in Python and other languages Build and maintain services for geometry processing, simulation orchestration, and real-time data handling Design schemas and pipelines for structured and unstructured data using PostgreSQL, S3, Redis, and RabbitMQ Own and improve CI/CD pipelines and deployment infrastructure (GitHub Actions, Hashicorp stack) Collaborate with product and design to define intuitive interfaces for tooling engineers and internal users Profile and optimize performance-critical workloads, including GPU-accelerated simulation tasks What We’re Looking For Minimum Qualifications 7+ years of experience building and deploying production software at scale Proficiency in at least one systems language (Go, Rust, or C++) and one scripting language (Python preferred) Experience designing and scaling distributed systems, data pipelines, or high-performance compute services Hands-on experience with distributed computing, cloud infrastructure, and CI/CD pipelines Comfortable working in hybrid environments (cloud and on-prem), including bare-metal GPU systems Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex ideas clearly in writing and in conversation Bonus Points For Experience with 3D geometry kernels (Parasolid, OpenCascade) or CAD/CAM workflows Familiarity with simulation, manufacturing, robotics, or hardware-in-the-loop systems Understanding of ITAR, CMMC, or similar regulatory constraints Experience building developer-facing tools, SDKs, or internal platforms How We Work Fast iteration: We deploy code daily and validate it in the factory every week Factory-first mindset: Engineers spend time on the shop floor to understand the real-world impact of their work Low ceremony, high ownership: We value well-written design docs, tested code, and real results — not meetings Collaborative culture: Geometry, AI, and robotics teams are tightly integrated and co-develop the product together Benefits Competitive salary and generous equity package Full medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and dependents 401(k) PTO with a 15-day minimum Quarterly team travel to Detroit Visa support for TN, E‑3, and O‑1 candidates Hardware stipend and on-site prototype lab access
