Job Description - Senior Developer Evangelist (Rust / Industrial IoT) – Remote (Germany based)
Are you a senior engineer who speaks fluent "Rust" but can also translate it into "Business Value"? Do you enjoy building complex distributed systems, yet refuse to let great tech stay hidden in the repository? If you want to be the strategic bridge between our deep-tech core and the world of Industrial IoT—without losing touch with the code—you might be the missing link we are looking for.
Peeriot is growing, and we’re looking for a Senior Developer Evangelist to take ownership of our technical narrative. You will work alongside our founders and core engineers, translating our distributed architecture into adoption-driving demos, whitepapers, and architectural guidance. This is a role for a coder-communicator who thrives in a peer-to-peer environment, shaping how the industry understands and uses our platform.
Who We Are
Peeriot GmbH is a German deep-tech startup with a clear mission: We are making sovereign, self-operating systems an everyday reality. We are building an open-source IoT and edge platform optimized for Smart Factories and Smart Cities that:
- Unifies mixed hardware fleets: Deploys a WebAssembly (WASM) runtime across diverse industrial controllers and city sensors without recompilation.
- Ensures critical continuity: Utilizes a Self-Organization Layer (SOL) to manage failover for manufacturing and urban infrastructure.
- Reduces operational complexity: Integrates control, messaging, and storage locally, minimizing cloud dependency for latency-sensitive tasks.
- Connects distributed assets: Supports protocols like LoRa and LTE-M, optimizing bandwidth for wide-area sensor networks.
- Enforces industrial compliance: Secures operations via local data sovereignty and aligns with Cyber Security standards.
The Role: Senior Developer Evangelist (Tech & Strategy Focus)
As the Owner of our Technical Narrative, you take responsibility for the "Why" and the "How" of our platform. You will be engineering the proof that our technology solves real-world problems. You will collaborate at eye level with our Core Developers to understand the engine, and with Industrial CTOs to understand the destination. Your tasks:
- Define the Message: You craft the "Tech-Safe" and "Customer-Safe" arguments that explain why Rust is the game-changer for the industrial edge.
- Build the Proof: You write the "Gold Standard" code examples and reference architectures that developers copy and industry clients trust.
- Represent as a Peer: You stand on stage at RUST conferences as a contributor, and in the boardroom of a machine builder as a solution architect.
Your Responsibilities
- Strategic Messaging: Translate complex technical features (e.g., Memory Safety, Zero-Copy Networking) into clear value propositions for two distinct audiences: Open Source Developers (Adoption) and Industrial Decision Makers (Commercial).
- Technical Content Production: Write deep-dive technical blog posts, whitepapers, and documentation.
- "Hero" Engineering: Build and maintain high-quality reference implementations (Rust) that showcase the platform's capabilities in IoT and Smart City contexts.
- Community Engineering: Be the primary technical voice in our community channels.
- Feedback Loop: Act as "Customer Zero". You stress-test the platform and translate market feedback into structured requirements for the Core Engineering team.
- Sales Enablement: Equip the founders and commercial partners with the technical arguments and battle cards needed to win enterprise deals.
What Makes You a Fit
Must-Haves
- Engineering Background: 8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2+ years of production-level Rust. You understand the borrow checker, async runtimes, and system architecture deeply enough to teach them.
- Bilingual Communication: You can explain memory safety to a C++ veteran and "Total Cost of Ownership" to a non-technical manager. English (native/C2) is mandatory.
- IoT / Distributed Systems Context: You understand the constraints of the edge and protocols like MQTT, CoAP, or Fieldbus.
- Writer at Heart: You have a portfolio of written technical content (blogs, docs, tutorials) that proves you can structure complex thoughts clearly.
- A "Solution Architect" Mindset: You don't just look at code lines; you look at the whole system and how it solves a business problem.
- EU Work-Permit: You have a EU Work Permit and ideally living in Germany.
Bonus Superpowers
- Public Speaking: Experience giving talks at tech conferences (Rust, Embedded, IoT) or running workshops.
- Open Source Maintainer: Experience maintaining a crate or contributing significantly to an open-source project.
- Industrial Experience: Background in Industrial IoT (IIoT), SCADA, or Smart City projects.
- Protocol Knowledge: Deep understanding of industrial or P2P protocols (OPC UA, Modbus, libp2p).
Why This Role Matters
You are joining a team of seniors to unlock the potential of modern, safe languages on hardware that powers the physical world. The work you do will:
- define the market category for distributed edge computing with Rust
- bridge the gap between a passionate open-source community and conservative industrial clients
- ensure that our message is as technically robust as our code
- enable developers worldwide to build the next generation of sovereign IoT apps
What We Offer
- Impact: A key strategic role directly shaping the company's voice and market fit.
- Growth Opportunities: A supportive environment fostering professional growth in a team of experts.
- Flexible Work Environment: Remote work options and flexible hours.
- Innovative Culture: A dynamic team dedicated to pushing technological boundaries.
- Cutting-Edge Technology: Access to state-of-the-art tools and hardware.
Interested? If you want to push the boundaries of how Deep Tech is understood and adopted—and you enjoy building the narrative as much as the prototype—we’d love to talk.
Making sure, you read until here: Here a small mathematical task: 94+5. Will ask you later about it.
