DSEL is seeking a resourceful and self-motivated individual to join our Utility department as a Senior Engineer. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership and oversight for utility coordination, design review, contract administration, and construction support activities associated with municipal and development projects. This role requires a strong understanding of utility infrastructure, engineering design practices, and project delivery coordination.

Reporting to: Utility Managers
Salary: $140,000
Responsibilities
- Lead utility coordination activities and provide engineering oversight for the development and review of Composite Utility Plans.
- Prepare, stamp, & review engineering drawings, specifications, and utility designs to identify conflicts, recommend solutions, and ensure constructability and compliance with applicable standards and municipal requirements.
- Prepare and review project cost estimates, schedules, budgets, and forecasts associated with utility and infrastructure works.
- Coordinate with municipalities, utility agencies, contractors, developers, consultants, and regulatory authorities to obtain required approvals and facilitate project execution.
- Provide technical support during all phases of project delivery, including planning, detailed design, tendering, construction, and project close-out.
- Assist in the preparation and review of tender documents, technical specifications, contract documents, and material estimates.
- Lead and support contract administration activities, including tender evaluations, contractor coordination, progress payment certifications, site meetings, and resolution of technical and construction-related issues.
- Schedule and participate in utility pre-construction meetings and provide technical guidance to project stakeholders throughout construction.
- Conduct site visits and inspections as required to verify construction progress, review existing conditions, document deficiencies, and support resolution of field conflicts.
- Assist with the preparation and review of record drawings, as-built documentation, deficiency lists, and final project close-out documentation.
- Mentor junior staff and provide technical guidance to internal project teams as required.
- Travel to project sites as required. Must have transportation.
- Any and all other duties as requested by the Employer.
Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of experience in municipal engineering, utility coordination, infrastructure design, and/or construction administration.
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
- P.Eng. designation in Ontario
- Strong understanding of municipal servicing, utility coordination, and construction practices.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
- Experience with contract administration and construction support services.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and utility coordination drawings.
- Previous experience working with municipalities, utility companies, developers, and consulting engineering firms is considered an asset.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
- Must have a vehicle for transportation — travel to project sites and offices is required.
