AWF Consulting is a growing Australian public accounting practice working with a diverse client base across individuals, small businesses, companies, trusts, partnerships, and SMSF clients.
We are looking for an experienced Senior Tax Accountant who is ready to step into a hands-on leadership role. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys technical tax work, reviewing files, managing workflow, mentoring accountants, and helping a small team deliver quality work.
This is a fully remote role. Australian citizenship or permanent residency is required.
About the role
You will take ownership of the tax compliance workflow and lead a small team of two accountants.
You will be responsible for preparing and reviewing tax returns and financial statements, managing job flow, supporting deadlines, and acting as a technical point of reference for the team.

What you will be doing
- Prepare and review individual, company, trust, and partnership tax returns
- Prepare and review financial statements across a range of client entities
- Manage the workflow of two accountants
- Allocate jobs, track progress, follow up outstanding work, and monitor deadlines
- Review work prepared by junior and intermediate accountants
- Provide clear technical feedback and guidance to team members
- Act as a technical point of contact for tax, compliance, and client queries
- Communicate with clients on tax, compliance, and general advisory matters
- Monitor lodgement deadlines and help keep the lodgement program on track
- Mentor and support team members to improve file quality, technical knowledge, and confidence
- Work with firm systems, checklists, and processes to improve consistency and efficiency
- Assist with SMSF work where required, depending on your experience
About you
You are an experienced Australian public practice accountant who takes pride in quality work, clear communication, and team support.
You will bring:
- CA or CPA qualification, or working towards completion
- 3-5 plus years’ experience in an Australian public accounting firm
- Strong experience preparing and reviewing tax returns and financial statements
- Experience across individuals, companies, trusts, and partnerships
- Strong knowledge of Australian tax compliance and current ATO requirements
- Experience reviewing work prepared by other accountants
- Experience managing workflow, deadlines, or job allocation
- Ability to mentor and support junior or intermediate accountants
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Confidence working remotely and managing your own workload
- Experience with Xero Tax, Xero Practice Manager, Karbon, Ignition, or similar practice systems
Highly regarded, but not essential:
- SMSF experience
- Experience with BGL Simple Fund 360 or Class
- Experience managing or mentoring a small team
- Experience improving tax workflows, checklists, or review processes
