Department Overview: The Wisconsin National Primate Research Center is one of seven federally supported National Primate Research Centers and the only one in the Midwest. The Primate Center is based in the University of Wisconsin-Madison Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research. Our mission is to increase understanding of basic primate biology and to improve human and animal health and quality of life through research. Anticipated Start Date: As soon as possible Anticipated End Date (If Applicable): Remote Work Eligibility Detail: Partially Remote Anticipated Hours Per Week: Minimum: 16 Schedule: Available between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Some nights or weekends required. Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum: Minimum: 13.50 Number of Positions: 1 Qualifications: - Experience translating science or health information into plain language for websites, social media, or news - Experience writing for diverse audiences - Experience creating ads for social media, including Canvas and/or Adobe Express - Wordpress experience Knowledge, Skills & Abilities : - Writing about science for different platforms - Pursuing degree in science communications preferred Position Summary/Job Duties: - Help create engaging, plain-language outreach materials - Help write science articles for the WNPRC website - Attend K–12 and public events like school science fairs to talk about primate research - Gain experience working with small school groups visiting the WNPRC - Some early evenings and weekend hours required for events Physical Demands: Sometimes carrying 20 pounds or less to outreach events Institutional Statements: Equal Employment Opportunity Statement: UW-Madison is an Equal Employment, Equal Access Employer committed to increasing the diversity of our workforce.
