Home-based opportunity Role As a member of the Capacity Building team, the Public Policy Support Officer supports the implementation of ISO’s Action Plan for Developing Countries (APDC 5), with a particular focus on delivering the Standards and Public Policy (SPP) Programme. The Programme aims to strengthen collaboration between ISO members and policymakers and regulators across sectors, in developing countries. The role contributes to advancing ISO’s efforts to position ISO and its members as key partners in policy development and implementation, and to strengthen collaboration with international organizations, governments, and regional bodies on standards-related public policy issues. Under the guidance of the Programme Manager for Standards and Public Policy, the Public Policy Support Officer supports project implementation, contributes to the development of policy briefs, identifies opportunities to enhance engagement with policymakers, and supports ISO’s strategic objectives related to increasing the uptake and participation of policymakers in standards development. Key responsibilities Programme and Policy Support - Support the implementation of the ISO Standards and Public Policy (SPP) Programme workplan and related activities. - Support the full life cycle of results-based project management for projects aimed at strengthening collaboration between ISO members, policymakers, and regulators across sectors. - Contribute to project design, planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting, including the preparation of workplans, timelines, and results frameworks. - Develop and coordinate project deliverables, including slide decks, background materials, agendas, and reports for workshops and consultations. - Support the development of thematic policy briefs, including on public procurement, critical and emerging technology, conformity assessment, including conceptualization, desk research, drafting, and coordination with internal teams and external experts. - Collaborate closely with ISO Central Secretariat (ISO/CS) teams to ensure the timely and effective delivery of programme activities. - Track developments in relevant ISO technical committees and policy-relevant standardization initiatives. Stakeholder Engagement and Coordination - Conduct background research and prepare policy and analytical briefings on government and ISO member needs, as well as emerging regulatory trends in priority areas. - Monitor and analyze policy, regulatory, and market developments among governments and international organizations, particularly in areas such as trade, critical and emerging technologies, conformity assessment, and climate-related regulations. - Assist in organizing workshops, consultations, and meetings (virtual and in-person), including agenda development, participant coordination, and follow-up actions. - Support coordination with ISO, national standards bodies, international organizations, and regional institutions. - Represent ISO at relevant member or partner events. - Prepare communication and outreach materials to highlight the objectives, activities, and impact of the ISO SPP Programme. Monitoring, Reporting, and Knowledge Management - Contribute to monitoring programme implementation and progress against agreed objectives and indicators. - Assist in drafting narrative reports, progress updates, and internal briefings for management and partners.
