Project Manager (Construction) – Utility-Scale Solar & BESS Location: Remote Travel: Up to 25% – 50% regional travel to project sites Position Type: Full-time About the Opportunity We are seeking a high-caliber Project Manager who will lead utility-scale solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and hybrid renewable energy projects from late-stage development through construction and commercial operation. In this role, you will take full ownership of project safety, scheduling, budget control, contract management, and construction quality. You will lead cross-functional internal teams and external Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) partners to deliver clean energy infrastructure across North America safely, on time, and within budget. Key Responsibilities Project Execution & Ownership: Plan, direct, and coordinate all activities for utility-scale solar and BESS assets. Maintain full ownership of project safety, quality, schedule, budget, and environmental compliance. EPC & Contract Management: Support the EPC selection and contract negotiation processes. Manage major supply contracts (e.g., high-voltage equipment, modules, and warranties) and rigorously review change orders and contractual variances. Financial Oversight: Establish and manage detailed project budgets, costs-to-date, and forecasts to completion. Coordinate regular cost and cash flow reporting and support monthly invoice review/drawdown processes. Engineering & Design Coordination: Coordinate internal and external engineering resources to facilitate the design review and Request for Information (RFI) processes. Provide technical support to development, permitting, and interconnection activities. Site & Construction Leadership: Oversee on-site Construction Managers, Project Engineers, and third-party QA/QC personnel. Ensure the EPC partner adheres to scheduling recovery plans, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and standard operating procedures. Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the primary point of contact for internal management and external stakeholders, including institutional investors/lenders during due diligence, independent engineer reviews, landowners, and local communities. Operational Handover: Ensure a seamless transition of completed assets over to the Operations and Asset Management teams, including all documentation, training, and warranty transfers. Minimum Qualifications Experience: 5+ years of construction management experience in the energy sector, with a proven track record of managing utility-scale renewable energy projects (Solar and/or BESS). Role History: Prior experience acting as a Project Manager, Owner’s Representative, or EPC Contractor on large-scale solar or energy storage initiatives. Project Controls: Strong proficiency in project controls, budgeting, contract negotiations, and scheduling software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera 6). Safety Culture: Deep commitment to site safety with an understanding of construction safety protocols (OSHA 30 certification is highly preferred). Leadership & Mobility: Strong supervisory, communication, and interpersonal skills. Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel up to 25%–50% to remote project sites. Work Authorization: Must be currently authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline. PMP (Project Management Professional) certification and/or a Professional Engineer (PE) license. Direct experience handling electrical high-voltage substation infrastructure. Familiarity with Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) requirements, including domestic content and labor compliance rules.
