Job Description This is a remote position. Americans United for Life (AUL), a national law and policy organization, is seeking a National Lead Investigator to advance the mission of AUL’s affiliate, The Center for Client Safety (CCS), by managing investigations of dangerous abortion facilities and providers from start to finish, overseeing intake and case research, and supporting the Director of Investigations in advancing key investigative priorities. The CCS investigations department leads high-impact casework that drives regulatory action, strengthens state and local advocacy efforts, and brings critical safety issues to light, to further the mission of helping protect women and children from harm and shutting down unsafe facilities and providers. POSITION SUMMARY The National Lead Investigator plays a critical role in advancing the mission of Americans United for Life’s affiliate, The Center for Client Safety (CCS), by managing investigations of dangerous abortion facilities and providers from start to finish, overseeing intake and case research, and supporting the Director of Investigations in advancing key investigative priorities. The CCS investigations department leads high-impact casework that drives regulatory action, strengthens state and local advocacy efforts, and brings critical safety issues to light, to further the mission of helping protect women and children from harm and shutting down unsafe facilities and providers. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES General Responsibilities: Investigations & Research § Manage complaint and violation intake, including communication with patients, complainants, sidewalk counselors, and pregnancy center workers. § Collect, verify, and analyze reports of unsafe practices or misconduct . § File and maintain public records requests (local, state, federal) and coordinate with agencies for updates. § Review obtained records, identify issues requiring deeper analysis, and prepare concise investigative summaries. § Prepare, submit, and track complaints and requests submitted to proper enforcement agencies. § Research state laws, regulations, and agency protocols relevant to active cases. § Document facility and provider histories and maintain accurate case files. Case Management & Documentation § Maintain organized investigative records and historical files in internal systems. § Ensure all case materials are complete, accurate, and easily accessible for leadership and legal partners. Team Coordination & Partnerships § Provide updates on active cases and support leadership with special investigative projects. § Engage with local partners and advocates to develop community-specific investigative strategies. § Assist in training community members to identify and report unsafe practices. Requirements QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS Education and Experience § Bachelor’s degree preferred. § Minimum two years of experience in a relevant field. § Familiarity with state regulations, administrative processes, or legal research (preferred). Physical and Sensory Abilities Frequently required to sit for extended periods to perform deskwork or type on a keyboard. Regularly required to hear and speak to effectively communicate orally. Ability to see, read, and interpret written documents. Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop in order to conduct business. Regularly lift 10 or fewer pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS Work Conditions This is a Remote position. When working remotely, the requirements of the Remote Work Agreement must be followed, including the directives on remote office safety and professionalism standards. When in the metro DC office, the working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is a climate=controlled office setting. It is well-lit and the noise level is moderate. Travel Requirements Irregular and occasional regional travel may be required. Proof of a valid driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance may be required.
