Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer Job Description The Mechanical Design Engineer designs and analyzes turbine hot gas path and rotor components for heavy-duty and aeroderivative gas turbine engines. This role collaborates closely with cross-functional engineering and global supply chain teams to ensure components and subsystems meet Critical to Quality (CTQ) requirements and align with established product and design practices. The engineer focuses on optimizing designs for cost, variation, and manufacturability while adhering to business standards, procedures, and program requirements. Responsibilities Design and analyze heavy-duty and aeroderivative gas turbine components, with a primary focus on hot gas path and rotor hardware. Evaluate turbine hot gas path and rotor components to ensure they meet performance, reliability, and durability requirements. Execute the design or evaluation of assigned hardware using sound engineering principles and established engineering practices. Ensure all design work adheres to documented business standards, procedures, and product or program requirements. Collaborate closely with controlled title holders, heat transfer specialists, manufacturing teams, and sourcing teams to optimize components and subsystems. Drive design optimization initiatives focused on design for cost, including both product and total lifecycle cost considerations. Incorporate design for variation principles to improve robustness and consistency in manufacturing and operation. Apply design for manufacturability concepts to ensure components can be produced efficiently and reliably using available manufacturing processes. Work with cross-functional engineering teams and global supply chain teams to align design solutions with supply chain capabilities and constraints. Participate in formal and informal technical design reviews, presenting design concepts, analyses, and results to controlled title holders and other stakeholders. Follow documented New Product Introduction (NPI) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) processes for all design tasks and outputs. Utilize CAD software, preferably Siemens NX, to create, modify, and maintain detailed 3D models and engineering drawings. Apply product lifecycle management tools and processes to manage design data, revisions, and configuration control throughout the product lifecycle. Use ANSYS or similar tools to perform mechanical analysis of turbine blades, nozzles, shrouds, and rotor components. Communicate technical information clearly and effectively through written reports, presentations, and discussions. Work effectively as part of cross-functional teams, contributing engineering expertise and supporting collaborative problem-solving. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering or science discipline from an accredited college or university. 4 to 8 years of engineering analysis experience. Experience designing and analyzing turbine blades, nozzles, shrouds, and/or rotor components using ANSYS. Proficiency in CAD software, preferably Siemens NX. Experience performing mechanical design and analysis of gas turbine components, including heavy-duty and aeroderivative gas turbines. Ability to execute design and evaluation tasks using sound engineering practices and methodologies. Basic understanding of core engineering principles and the ability to apply them to real-world design problems. Familiarity with product lifecycle management processes and tools. Ability to work within documented NPI and RCA processes. Effective oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work successfully in cross-functional teams. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience evaluating hot gas path and rotor components in turbine applications. Exposure to design for cost, including product and total lifecycle cost optimization. Experience applying design for variation and design for manufacturability principles. Familiarity with Critical to Quality (CTQ) requirements and design practices. Experience participating in formal and informal technical reviews with controlled title holders and other stakeholders. Comfort working with global supply chain teams and understanding supply chain considerations in design decisions. Work Environment This role typically operates in an office or remote work environment, providing flexibility in how and where work is completed. The position supports work with state-of-the-art equipment in a clean, modern facility. The organization offers a long-term career opportunity with benefits that may include holiday, vacation, and retirement savings programs. Collaboration with cross-functional and global teams is a regular part of the workday, supported by digital engineering tools, CAD platforms such as Siemens NX, and product lifecycle management systems.
