We have a current opportunity for a L essons and Adaptation Support Consultant , on a contract basis within the Defence sector. The role is based in Canberra or Remotely . The contract is for an initial 11 month period, with a 12 month extension option . Start: circa 30 July 2026 DSS Skill Set: Level 2 - Strategic Business Advice The Lessons and Adaptation Support Consultant will be responsible for, but not limited to the following duties: Provide critical examination and analysis of issues relevant to Defence capability. Conduct assessment of organisational strengths and weaknesses relevant to identified issues. Establish and manage communities of interest relevant to identified issues. Apply understanding of Defence policy and strategic objectives. Provide evidence based support to activities. Conduct collection and analysis of information. Coordinate, assist and undertake stakeholder engagement activities Collaborate with a small team of lessons specialists. Manage lessons input to Doctrine and associated publications. Maintain an auditable trail, using Objective, of changes to and decisions on Defence publications. Provide advice related to the Defence Lessons Program. Share ideas, information and experiences through knowledge management. Minimum mandatory requirements: AGSVA Security Clearance Defence experience Strong verbal and communication skills, especially the ability to communicate with management and staff at all levels. Excellent long and short form writing skills, ensuring a logical structure is applied to make sense to a reader. Ability to collect, analyse, interpret, and evaluate information relevant to the subject. Experienced working both independently and within a team environment. Ability to organise and manage multiple deadlines and priorities. Manage progression of lessons tasks to reduce any prospect of conflict, meet work health and safety responsibilities, apply principles-based decision making, and make the most effective use of resources. Demonstrate knowledge transfer through sharing ideas, information and experiences, seeking opportunities for organisational learning and supporting the contribution of others.
