The Pro Climbing League is a new competitive climbing league featuring the world’s best athletes, a new and exciting competitive format and a global tour of climbing’s biggest cities. After a highly successful debut event in London, we are now on a path to delivering premium events around the world, building a content platform for climbers worldwide, and realising the full potential of the sport that we love so much.
We exist to support the athletes who give everything to the sport and the wider community of people who love climbing. That shapes how we work with individuals, how we build partnerships, and how we tell the story of our sport. The PCL celebrates the rich culture of climbing and the many great people who shaped it.
Co-founded by Charlie and Danaan, we’ve both had climbing involved in every part of our lives and are now looking to lay the path for others in the sport. We are led by passion both on the wall and off it and we hope you are too.
The Role
The Head of Brand is the custodian of how PCL feels to the audiences that matter: athletes, fans and partners. The role owns the brand from identity through to its expression across every channel the league touches, and is responsible for the league reading as a premium, prestige property at every point of contact.
This is a senior leadership hire reporting into the CEO. You will design integrated campaigns and lead their delivery across a multi-disciplinary function spanning content, social, web, copy, design, PR, and performance marketing. The team is structured with central freelancers and distributed support in new territories as needed.
The role is remote. You can be based anywhere, with reasonable overlap with European working hours.
What you'll own
- Brand identity and messaging. Partner with the CEO to define and protect the PCL brand voice, visual language, and narrative architecture. The brand celebrates the heritage of climbing and is deeply tied to the culture and storylines of the athletes who compete in the league. Translate that prestige positioning into a coherent system that holds across all communication channels.
- Campaign design. Conceive and lead the integrated campaigns that carry the league through each season, including the season opener, city debuts, finals, and off-season storytelling. Take them from concept and creative brief through to multi-channel execution.
- Delivery leadership. Run the operational rhythm of comms across the team. Set briefs, manage trade-offs, hold quality standards, and get the work shipped on time and on-brand across central and territory functions.
- Channel integration. On the commercial side, lead the comms that drive ticket sales, broadcast tune-in, and sponsor activation. On the brand side, lead the work that builds culture and narrative for the league over time, including athlete-led storytelling and heritage-driven content that does not tie directly to a revenue line. You’ll have specialist support and a content team on the brand side but in the end, both need to feel like the same league.
- Endemic channels. PCL puts significant focus on endemic-media channels to reach the climbing world. Lead collaborations with these key partners to both support the professionalisation of our industry and as a comms vehicle for the league.
- Performance needs. Manage roles associated with PR and performance marketing with the overview of how to scale and calibrate in different territories. Set the global standards, calendar, and brief, and hold local execution on-brand.
- Content calendar and partner coordination. Own the calendar for short-form social, and collaborate with the dedicated long-form content team on the broader editorial plan. Coordinate with key partners on co-produced content and with commercial partners on sponsor integration.
What we're looking for
- You are a climber. You are part of the international climbing world, not someone observing it from a marketer’s distance. You know its history and heritage, its gyms and its scenes, and the conversations that move the sport. You can read what’s authentic and what isn’t.
- You appreciate the athletes. You understand what motivates them and the lifestyle they embrace. Personal relationships with athletes on the roster are a bonus, not a requirement.
- You design campaigns and lead their delivery. You have built integrated, multi-channel campaigns end-to-end: strategic brief, creative development, paid, organic, and partner-channel activation, measurement. You have led the teams that delivered them. You are equally happy in strategy and in the operational grind of shipping.
- Senior experience. A track record in brand, comms, or marketing leadership at meaningful scale, ideally including time in sports, entertainment, or premium consumer. Experience building or stewarding brands where prestige and cultural credibility matter as much as reach.
- You can run a distributed team. Experience setting global standards while leaving local execution enough room to work across multiple markets. Comfortable holding the brand line from a distance.
- Design sensibility. You can be a credible partner to designers and protect visual standards, even if you don’t design yourself.
- Comfortable in early-stage environments. Building team, systems, and standards from scratch, working alongside founders, partners, athletes, and sponsors.
What success looks like in year 1
- A defined brand system, defended and in use across everything PCL puts out
- A full team and operating rhythm in place across central and territory functions, shipping season campaigns on schedule and to standard
- Measurable growth in owned channel audience and broadcast tune-in
- The PCL brand recognised by athletes, partners, and the wider climbing world as the premium standard in the sport
- Successful delivery against the marketing needs of the upcoming PCL season
What's in it for you
- Salary. A competitive package.
- Remote work and travel. Work from wherever you live (with reasonable overlap with European working hours) and travel to PCL events as they roll out around the world.
- A psyched team. You'll be joining people who have spent their lives in the sport, bring senior experience in their disciplines, and are properly invested in what we are doing. You'll also have the autonomy to build the team under you with the specialists, freelancers, and agency partners you need.
- Mission. PCL exists to support the athletes who shape the sport and the wider climbing community. You'd be helping us build that.
