Job Description The Freight Agent / Independent Freight Broker will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, developing customer relationships, securing freight, negotiating rates, and managing transportation solutions across the domestic market. This role requires strong business development skills, industry knowledge, and the ability to operate with a high level of autonomy. Key responsibilities include: Developing new shipper relationships and generating freight opportunities throughout the United States. Prospecting, qualifying, and securing new transportation accounts. Building long-term customer partnerships through proactive communication and service excellence. Negotiating freight rates with customers and transportation providers. Identifying capacity solutions through carrier networks and transportation resources. Managing freight opportunities from prospecting through shipment execution. Coordinating shipment visibility, communication, and service updates. Monitoring market trends, capacity fluctuations, and transportation pricing conditions. Maintaining strong relationships with carriers, transportation providers, and logistics partners. Growing revenue, gross profit, and overall transportation business volume. Managing customer expectations while ensuring high levels of service and responsiveness. Required Qualifications Proven experience within domestic freight brokerage, transportation sales, logistics sales, or freight business development. Experience working with domestic 3PL providers, freight brokerages, transportation intermediaries, and/or asset-based carriers. Strong understanding of freight lanes, market pricing, transportation capacity, and carrier sourcing. Demonstrated ability to prospect, develop, and secure new freight business. Experience negotiating transportation rates and freight solutions. Strong communication, relationship-building, and customer service skills. Self-motivated with the ability to operate independently in a commission-based environment. Hunter mentality with a proven ability to generate opportunities through outbound business development. Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to manage multiple customer opportunities simultaneously. Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship. No current or future visa sponsorship requirements. Preferred Qualifications Existing book of business. Multi-modal transportation experience including truckload, LTL, intermodal, expedited, flatbed, refrigerated, or specialized freight. Established shipper relationships. Established carrier network and transportation contacts. Experience operating cradle-to-grave freight management processes. Experience working with transportation management systems and logistics technology platforms. Strong understanding of freight market analytics and pricing strategies. Proven history of revenue growth and account expansion. Demonstrated employment stability and progressive transportation industry experience. Seeking a salary-only opportunity rather than a commission-based structure. Inability to operate independently within a 1099 environment. Requiring visa sponsorship now or in the future.
