Forward Deployed Engineer - Unum Are you ready to build the brain of the modern enterprise? Join us Your mission is to own the last mile of enterprise AI deployment. Unum is an Enterprise Superintelligence platform built to transform how enterprises operate, but getting it to actually run inside complex organizations is what makes it real. As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you own the last mile: taking Unum into complex customer environments, connecting it to real systems, shaping workflows with users, and making sure the platform creates measurable adoption and impact. This is not a traditional software engineering role, and it is not a classic solutions engineering role either. You are a technical owner embedded close to the customer, responsible for turning messy enterprise reality into working software, repeatable patterns, and stronger platform capabilities. YOUR IMPACT Own the Last Mile: Own the technical outcome of Unum deployments end to end. You will work directly with customers inside real customer environments, understand how work actually happens, and make Unum usable, trusted, and valuable in production. Customer-Embedded Engineering: Build integrations, templates, and deployment logic around actual customer systems, constraints, and users. You will operate where product, engineering, delivery, and customer reality meet. Platform Learning: Translate specific customer pain into reusable product patterns. You will identify what should stay custom, what should become a template, and what should become part of the core Unum platform. Technical Execution: Build high-impact applications, connectors, agentic workflows, and tools that help Unum deliver faster and more reliably. You will work across prototype, implementation, deployment, monitoring, and iteration. Trust & Adoption: Work directly with users and stakeholders to earn trust, clarify success, and drive adoption. You will not just ship features, but make sure they are used, understood, and delivering value. Agentic Workflows: Design how AI agents surface findings, request feedback, trigger approvals, and escalate when they get stuck. You will help define what governed autonomy looks like in real enterprise workflows. WHY YOU Experience: 3+ years of professional experience in software, product engineering, applied AI, or forward deployed engineering. Experience as a founder, early engineer, technical lead, or customer-facing builder is a strong plus. Technical Depth: Strong engineering fundamentals, with proficiency in Python and experience building full-stack applications. Experience with TypeScript, cloud infrastructure, integrations, and Terraform is a plus. AI Native: You have built with LLM APIs and understand how to turn model capabilities into useful workflows, not just demos. Customer Proximity: You enjoy working close to users, understanding their real constraints, and turning ambiguous problems into working systems. Product Judgement: You do not just build what is asked. You understand why something matters, how it affects adoption, and when to challenge the request. Execution Orientation: You are comfortable with messy environments, unclear requirements, legacy systems, stakeholder complexity, and production constraints. You make progress without needing a perfect brief. Founder Mindset: You take ownership, create structure where none exists, and care deeply about whether the solution actually works in the field. FAQ Can I work fully remote at ML6? No. We deliberately follow a hybrid setup. We have a strong collaborative culture where we’d like to meet up at least a couple of times a week in one of our offices. Do know that ML6 provides a lot of flexibility in terms of working hours and how you schedule your agenda. Our offices are situated in Berlin, Munich, Amsterdam, Eindhoven and Ghent. What to expect when joining ML6? Don’t expect a big corporate organisation with pre-defined jobroles and a defined plan for the coming years. Expect the unexpected. Growth, change and impact. Learn from engaged experts with a like minded passion for technology. Expect to work for the most innovative and biggest companies across countries. What are examples of projects that ML6 worked on? At ML6, we boost and increase revenue growth for other companies, by implementing AI solutions. We do this for a broad range of industries. From manufacturing, to healthcare or media and entertainment industries (and lots more!). You can find some of our client cases and testimonials here . What about the ethical aspect of AI? At ML6 we take our responsibility to build secure, reliable and sustainable technology seriously and integrate ethics within our way of working. We have our own Ethical Advisory board to discuss sensitive projects. Read our blogpost on how we approach this practically here . Why is ML6 called ML6? ML stands for Machine Learning. Next to that, we don't take ourselves always very seriously. Our people are 'ML6 agents', wink to MI6. Seen the James Bond movies? Our meeting rooms for example are named after them. After all, we can be a bit geeky at times ;-) What does a typical AI project look like? This really depends on the scope of the project. A project can run for a couple of months, to even years. Our ML6ies work on projects together with a team of colleagues. This team can have different skills like data engineering, software, machine learning and project management to deliver top notch service to our clients. They sometimes work on different projects simultaneously or combine project work with an internal project or research topic. We are not an outsourcing firm. Is ML6 only a place for juniors to launch their career? Definitely not. We indeed believe in accelerating young graduates in their career and bringing in new fresh perspectives, but the same applies for seniors. We are always challenging ourselves to expand our capabilities and bring in new knowledge and expertise. People have a personal growth plan at our company, where they can choose to specialise more or to grow further in people and strategy responsibilities. In 2025, 45% of our hires were hired on a senior level. ML6 exposes you to an incredible ecosystem of leading AI talent and will continue to challenge you on a day-to-day basis by bringing you a big variety of projects and business problems. Can I also work on a product? At ML6 you can even work on multiple products! Sometimes we build products and platforms for customers (and/or internally) as well. Unum is a great example, but we’ve also, for example, built onboarding platforms for customers in the past. The good thing about ML6: you can choose to work for a longer amount of time on the same project or product, or if you’d like more variation, choose to rotate more towards different projects or products. Our core today still focuses on selling solutions, but we’re also maturing on the product side. In short: variation in your role will be differentiating. How technically in depth can I go at ML6? Our company stands for our engineering expertise. You’ll work alongside the most brilliant engineers, with a very in depth technical focus. Some use cases don’t need a very technical in depth solution, some do. At ML6 you can work in different domains (from GenAI to more classic ML), and on different types of client problems. We always make sure that our seniors are linked to more complex problems and to their domain of expertise (ex specific Cloud or Industry). How long does the application process take? On average, about 2-3 weeks starting from the first interview. Our junior technical process typically takes a bit longer, since we start with a coding challenge. Does ML6 still need real engineers? Absolutely! Here’s the thing: AI generates code at the speed of light, but understanding it still moves at the speed of thought. If you just let the AI run wild, you don’t get a finished product. AI-native engineering is the new normal. It makes us faster, and it allows us to bridge the gap between technical and functional roles in ways we never thought possible. But it’s not a magic button. It requires a more disciplined, human approach to design and quality control than ever before. Acceleration of delivery might unlock new use-cases that previously were not economically viable. About ML6 We guide the AI revolution towards positive impact. We believe in using the full potential of artificial intelligence to spark innovation, increase efficiency, accelerate growth, and create lasting impact. Our mission is clear: ensure that the next wave of technological breakthroughs drives progress not just for businesses, but for humanity as a whole. We bring AI ambitions to life. As ML6 highly values diversity, inclusion and transparent communication, we've implemented a formal channel to report serious misconduct here .
