IDEA International is seeking a part-time Executive Director to provide strategic, administrative, programmatic, and fundraising leadership for our global organization.
About IDEA International
IDEA International is a global network led by and for persons affected by leprosy, also known as Hansen’s disease, and their families. IDEA works to advance dignity, inclusion, human rights, and opportunity for persons affected by leprosy and to strengthen the leadership of persons with lived experience around the world.
This is a remote, part-time position of approximately 15 hours per week, with collaboration across international time zones. Compensation is approximately $27/hour, subject to board approval and budget capacity.
Position Overview
The Executive Director provides strategic, administrative, programmatic, and fundraising leadership for IDEA International. Working closely with the Board of Directors, international affiliates, partners, and persons affected by leprosy, the Executive Director helps advance IDEA’s mission of dignity, inclusion, human rights, and opportunity. This role requires a highly organized, mission-driven leader who can manage day-to-day nonprofit operations while also strengthening donor relationships, supporting grant opportunities, and helping grow IDEA’s base of financial support.
Key responsibilities include:
Organizational Leadership and Administration:
- Provide day-to-day leadership and coordination for IDEA’s operations, programs, communications, and administrative systems.
- Work closely with the Board Chair, officers, committees, and board members to support strong governance and clear communication.
- Prepare agendas, reports, minutes, and other materials for board and committee meetings as needed.
- Support compliance with nonprofit requirements, including filings, policies, documentation, and organizational records.
Fundraising and Development:
- Work with the Board of Directors to strengthen IDEA’s fundraising strategy and long-term financial sustainability.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with individual donors, monthly supporters, foundations, and partner organizations.
- Support donor communications, fundraising appeals, acknowledgment letters, and stewardship efforts.
- Identify and help pursue grant opportunities aligned with IDEA’s mission and programs.
- Collaborate with board members and volunteers to expand the “Friends of IDEA” donor base.
- Help communicate IDEA’s impact clearly and compellingly to current and prospective supporters.
Programs, Partnerships, and Global Network Support:
- Coordinate with IDEA affiliates, partners, and persons affected by leprosy across countries and regions.
- Support virtual gatherings, advocacy initiatives, peer connection, leadership development, and other mission-aligned programs.
- Represent IDEA in communications with partner organizations, donors, and other stakeholders when appropriate.
- Help ensure that IDEA’s work remains grounded in the voices, priorities, and leadership of persons with lived experience.
Communications and Public Presence:
- Support clear, consistent external communications, including newsletters, website updates, social media content, and donor-facing materials.
- Help tell IDEA’s story in ways that are accurate, dignified, and compelling.
- Maintain professional communication with international partners, donors, board members, affiliates, and community members.
Finance and Operations:
- Coordinate with the Treasurer and Finance Committee to support budgeting, financial reporting, and responsible stewardship of organizational resources.
- Help track income, expenses, donor records, payments, and supporting documentation in collaboration with appropriate board and staff support.
- Ensure that operational systems are organized, transparent, and accessible to authorized IDEA leadership.
Desired qualifications:
- Commitment to IDEA’s mission and to the dignity, rights, and leadership of persons affected by leprosy.
- Experience in nonprofit administration, international advocacy, public health, disability rights, human rights, fundraising, or a related field.
- Strong writing, communication, organization, and relationship-building skills.
- Comfort working across cultures, languages, time zones, and technology platforms.
- Experience with donor stewardship, grant research, fundraising communications, or nonprofit development preferred.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and communicate proactively with board leadership.
- Financial and administrative experience, including budgeting, reporting, or bookkeeping systems.
