Company Description
Bactria Capital is a proprietary trading firm headquartered in Houston, Texas. The firm trades internal capital only, combining fundamental research with quantitative analysis to find opportunities across global markets. The name comes from ancient Bactria, the crossroads where the trade routes of the world once met, and reflects the idea at the center of the firm: different strategies, disciplines, and perspectives brought together under a single approach to risk. Bactria does not manage outside capital or offer services to investors.
Role Description
This is a remote, unpaid Equity Research Intern role within the Bactria Research Program. The program runs for 4 weeks and takes roughly 3 to 5 hours per week, so it fits around a normal academic schedule.
By the end of the program you will have produced a written research report and a stock pitch on a company you covered yourself, reviewed line by line by the firm. These are finished pieces of work you can put in front of any recruiter or interviewer and defend in detail, which is exactly what early internship and analyst interviews ask for. Selected work may be published on Bactria's research page under your name.
In weeks 1 and 2, you complete training in the core equity research toolkit. This covers how to read the three financial statements, valuation fundamentals, research writing, and data sourcing, and ends with a short assessment.
In weeks 3 and 4, you select a company with our guidance and build your coverage. You submit your research report and stock pitch to the firm and receive detailed written feedback on each.
What You Will Gain
- A complete research report and stock pitch that are yours to keep and use in recruiting
- Detailed written feedback on your work from the firm, not a certificate of participation
- A working knowledge of the research process used to evaluate real investments
- Direct access to the firm for questions and guidance throughout the program
- The chance to have your work published under your name on Bactria's research page
Qualifications
- Strong analytical skills and an interest in markets and investing
- Interest in equity research and willingness to learn financial modeling and valuation
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Able to work independently in a remote setting
- Pursuing a degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field. All undergraduates are welcome, including freshmen and sophomores. No prior experience is required.
Important Notes
This is an unpaid educational program designed for the benefit of the intern. Participation does not displace paid employees, does not constitute employment, and does not entitle participants to wages or a position at its conclusion. We are glad to coordinate academic credit where your university allows it.
