Environmental Engineering – AI Data Trainer About The Role AI is rapidly advancing into highly specialized scientific domains — and it needs experts like you to get it right. We're looking for environmental engineers to help train and evaluate cutting-edge AI models on complex topics like water treatment, air quality, contaminant transport, and hazardous waste remediation. Your domain knowledge will directly shape how AI reasons through real-world environmental problems — improving accuracy, safety, and technical rigor across the models that millions of people will rely on. Organization: Alignerr Type: Hourly Contract Location: Remote Commitment: 10–40 hours/week What You'll Do Design Advanced Technical Problems — Craft challenging environmental engineering scenarios across domains including contaminant transport, mass balance in treatment plants, hydrology, and Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) Author Gold-Standard Solutions — Develop rigorous, step-by-step responses including chemical dosage calculations, hydraulic flow models, and pollutant dispersion simulations that serve as definitive reference answers Audit AI-Generated Outputs — Critically evaluate AI-produced remediation plans, environmental impact statements, and regulatory analyses for technical accuracy, safety, and compliance with standards like EPA regulations and ISO 14001 Refine AI Reasoning — Identify flaws in model logic — such as incorrect stoichiometry in biological processes or failure to account for secondary environmental impacts — and provide structured feedback to improve how the model thinks Stress-Test Model Limits — Probe AI systems with edge cases and domain-specific challenges to expose weaknesses and drive meaningful improvements Who You Are Holds or is pursuing a Master's or PhD in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering (with environmental focus), or a closely related field Strong foundational knowledge in one or more core areas: aquatic chemistry, wastewater process design, air quality engineering, or hazardous waste remediation Able to communicate complex technical and ecological concepts clearly in written form Meticulous attention to detail — especially around unit conversions, chemical equations, and regulatory compliance logic Self-motivated and comfortable working independently on an async, flexible schedule No prior AI experience required Nice to Have Experience with data annotation, data quality, or technical evaluation workflows Familiarity with environmental modeling software (e.g., AERMOD, SWMM, EPA tools) Background in EHS compliance or environmental consulting Why Join Us Work on some of the most technically ambitious AI projects in the world Fully remote and flexible — work on your own schedule, from anywhere Freelance autonomy with the support of a collaborative global team Contribute to meaningful work at the intersection of environmental science and AI Potential for ongoing work and contract extension
