Company Description
Sierra Capital Partners is an independent, SEC-registered investment adviser founded in 1998. The firm provides customized investment advisory services to select families, foundations, and institutional clients, with a fiduciary focus and a global perspective.
Role Description
Sierra Capital Partners is seeking a Director, SBIC Advisory to help lead and scale the firm’s advisory platform for banks investing in SBIC managers.
This is a highly specialized role for someone with direct experience inside a bank SBIC program, advising banks on SBIC investments, or working closely across the SBIC, CRA, bank treasury, and lower-middle-market private capital ecosystem.
The Director, SBIC Advisory will guide bank clients through the full lifecycle of establishing, evaluating, and monitoring SBIC investment programs. Responsibilities will include CRA and investment analysis, manager evaluation, investment committee preparation, ALCO and board materials, ongoing portfolio monitoring, capital call processing, valuation updates, and quarterly reporting.
The role will also serve as a key relationship point with SBIC fund managers, helping Sierra maintain real-time insight into which managers are raising capital, what strategies they are pursuing, where they plan to invest, and how those opportunities align with bank clients’ CRA geography, risk appetite, and investment objectives.
This is a senior client-facing role with meaningful opportunity to shape a differentiated advisory platform in a specialized market. The position is based in Miami, FL, with flexibility for a remote arrangement for the right candidate. Travel is expected to be approximately 10% to 20%, primarily for bank client meetings, SBIC manager meetings, and industry events.
Qualifications
• 7 to 12+ years of experience in banking, investment management, financial advisory, private credit, private equity, or a related field
• Direct experience working at a bank investing in SBIC managers, or advising banks on SBIC investment programs
• Strong understanding of SBIC investments, CRA considerations, bank investment programs, and institutional due diligence
• Experience evaluating fund managers, including strategy, track record, portfolio construction, loss history, capital structure, risk profile, and performance
• Ability to prepare investment committee materials, ALCO materials, board presentations, due diligence summaries, and regulatory documentation
• Strong financial analysis skills, including the ability to interpret fund financial statements, cash flows, valuations, and risk/return profiles
• Familiarity with bank decision-making processes, including investment committees, compliance teams, CRA officers, treasury teams, senior executives, and boards
• Existing relationships, or the ability to quickly build relationships, with SBIC fund managers, placement agents, SBA/SBIC ecosystem participants, and bank investors
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex regulatory and investment topics into clear recommendations
• Entrepreneurial mindset and interest in helping build a growing advisory business
• CFA, CAIA, MBA, or advanced degree in finance, economics, business, or a related field is helpful but not required
