Position Summary
RC2 is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Business Development Director to help accelerate growth within U.S. innovator pharmaceutical accounts, with a particular focus on Big Pharma.
This is a high-impact individual contributor role focused on generating new business opportunities, expanding strategic relationships, and increasing overall commercial activity with innovator pharmaceutical customers.
The ideal candidate brings an established industry network and a demonstrated track record of opening doors, building relationships, and creating commercial opportunities within pharmaceutical manufacturing, CDMO, API, intermediates, or specialty chemical environments.
This individual must thrive in a smaller, hands-on organization where initiative, adaptability, accountability, and commercial creativity are highly valued.
This role reports directly to the VP of Sales & Marketing and works closely with RC2 leadership and supplier partners to align customer needs with technical and manufacturing capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and expand relationships within targeted innovator pharmaceutical and Big Pharma accounts.
- Drive new business opportunities through strategic outreach, networking, referrals, and industry engagement.
- Manage and expand existing customer relationships where applicable.
- Identify, qualify, and advance new commercial opportunities aligned with RC2’s supplier network and technical capabilities.
- Build and manage a robust commercial pipeline focused on APIs, intermediates, fine chemicals, and related cGMP and non-cGMP manufacturing opportunities.
- Serve as the primary commercial interface between customers and RC2’s global supply partners.
- Understand customer manufacturing and supply chain needs and align them with RC2’s sourcing and manufacturing capabilities.
- Lead commercial discussions, proposal development, and contract negotiations in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Represent RC2 at industry conferences, trade shows, and customer meetings.
- Maintain visibility into industry trends, outsourcing activity, supply chain dynamics, and competitive developments across the pharmaceutical manufacturing landscape.
- Provide regular pipeline, opportunity, and market feedback to leadership.
- Collaborate internally with leadership and technical stakeholders to evaluate and advance commercial opportunities.
Qualifications
- Proven success developing new business and generating opportunities within innovator pharmaceutical accounts, particularly Big Pharma.
- Experience within CDMO, API, pharmaceutical intermediates, fine chemicals, specialty chemicals, or related pharmaceutical manufacturing environments.
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships through an existing network and/or highly effective outbound business development efforts.
- Strong commercial instincts with the ability to navigate complex customer organizations and long sales cycles.
- Self-starter comfortable operating in a smaller, entrepreneurial, and less structured environment.
- Excellent communication, relationship management, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Willingness to travel throughout the United States for customer meetings and industry events, with potential for international travel based on project requirements.
- Chemistry or related technical background preferred.
