CPNYC has successfully developed an innovative model, the only one of its kind in New York City, which co-locates a licensed mental health clinic and children's centers in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, and the South Bronx. CPNYC provides an array of youth development programming and services tailored to each child's individual strengths and challenges and fosters a unique uplifting environment to foster hope and resilience. Position Overview : Dance Activity Specialists organize, lead, and promote interest in Dance activities. Instructors utilize and adapt the New York State Arts Learning Standards in order to create an engaging and awarding activity that encourages participation in CPNYC programs. Essential Job Functions Organize, lead, and promote interest in arts activities such as dance, theater, music, visual art, photography, digital media, chorus, and percussion. Organize performance groups and direct their rehearsals. Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students. Ascertain and interpret group interests, evaluate equipment and facilities, and adapt activities to meet the student’s needs. Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities. Explain principles, techniques, and safety procedures to participants in the activities, and demonstrate use of materials and equipment. Greet new arrivals to activities, introducing them to other students, explaining the rules, and encouraging participation. Evaluate activity to determine if they are producing desired results. Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests. Progressive development of student skills leading to a final project Provide support during the academic / homework hour Promotes positive character development in all youth Required Knowledge, Skill and Experience Associate Degree Minimum of two years of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is required Must have experience successfully teaching and instructing youth in the Arts. Must have a passion for CPNYC’s mission and demonstrated interest in the field of education and youth development Must be responsible, reliable and punctual. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required Must be adaptable to the work environment such as hybrid program model availability: on-site and remote including ability to work from home or other non-school site location readily and throughout the day. Must be remote access prepared which includes including web/internet/broadband accessibility and reliable cell phone devices equipped for texting and talking. Must possess and be able to maintain throughout the assignment; the technology (hardware, software, internet access and a working cell phone) required to perform the duties of the position including communications with supervisor and other staff members Physical requirements, including ability to wear all PPE required, climb stairs, lift children, perform CPR, communicate by voice, monitor and evaluate events visually and aurally. As an essential worker it is expected at this time, that you have schedule flexibility based on State, Local and Federal pandemic management conditions and requirements (e.g. School closures, training, emergency orders) Certifications and credentials in respective skill-based activity highly preferred Candidates who are qualified to lead instruction in more than one activity preferred as well Must pass pre-employment background investigation including but not limited to fingerprinting, employment history, and criminal background check.
