Reporting to the Assistant Director of Online Degree Programs, the Coordinator provides comprehensive academic advising, admissions support, and student engagement services for current and prospective online students. This role leads day-to-day online advising operations, develops individualized academic plans, monitors student progress, and implements timely interventions to support academic success. The coordinator manages admissions review, onboarding, and matriculation processes, creates and maintains self-service student resources, and contributes to program coordination, including orientations, workshops, and engagement activities. Serving as a primary point of contact for online students, the coordinator applies institutional policies, fosters student development, and collaborates across departments to enhance student persistence, connection, and degree completion. Academic Advising and Online Student Engagement • Provide academic advising, mentoring, and engagement for current and prospective online students • Lead and coordinate online academic advising efforts through scheduled virtual appointments and drop-in advising sessions • Develop personalized academic plans aligned with students’ academic and career goals, degree requirements, and university policies • Monitor and assess student academic progress and coordinate timely interventions to address academic challenges or concerns • Advise students of academic options and recommend appropriate courses of action in collaboration with the Assistant Director as needed • Interpret and apply college and university policies and procedures related to advising, progression, and degree completion • Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic advising records within university databases • Refer students to appropriate college and campus resources, programs, and support systems • Guide students in exploring their goals, interests, strengths, values, and concerns using intentional, student-centered advising strategies and positive, open-ended questions Admissions, Onboarding, and Matriculation • Coordinate and manage admission application review for online programs in collaboration with central admissions and campus partners • Lead new student onboarding and matriculation processes, including welcome communications, participation in orientation courses, and coordination of initial advising appointments • Manage readmission and major change processes for online program students in accordance with college and university policies Online Student Support & Program Coordination • Create, manage, and continuously improve self-service advising and onboarding resources for prospective applicants and current online students • Support and implement initiatives designed to enhance connection, persistence, and completion for online business students • Contribute to the coordination of program-related activities, including online orientations, academic workshops, commencement-related activities, and engagement events for prospective and current online students Collaboration, Professional Development & Other Duties • Participate in regular staff and team meetings and contribute to committee work as assigned • Engage in professional development at the local, regional, and/or national level • Attend on-campus meetings, events, and retreats as needed • Perform other duties as assigned Required Qualifications Education: Master’s Degree in higher education administration, counseling, student affairs, business, communications, or a related field Experience: Minimum of four years of experience in academic advising or student services Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Knowledge of undergraduate education, academic policies, and best practices in academic advising. Demonstrated ability to address complex student issues and implement innovative problem-solving strategies. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to use advising technologies (student information systems, advising platforms, etc.). Preferred Qualifications Experience: Supervisory experience Teaching experience at the college level Experience working with adult learners Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Knowledge of adult learning theory and its application to online higher education Knowledge of unique challenges and needs of adult learners Work Location Location: Knoxville, TN Well qualified candidates may be eligible for hire as a 100% remote employee.
