Cloud costs do not spiral because engineers do not care. They spiral because no one has built the systems, the culture, and the financial rigour to keep them in check at scale. That is the problem this role exists to solve.

A globally scaled platform on GCP is at the point where cloud spend needs to be engineered, not just monitored. The tooling, the frameworks, the automation, and the organisational habits that turn cost into a first-class engineering concern, none of that exists yet at the level it needs to. This hire builds it.

You will not be dropping into a mature FinOps function to maintain someone else's work. You will be designing the cost intelligence layer from the ground up, tagging standards, budget controls, committed use strategy, waste elimination pipelines, and the forecasting models that give Finance and engineering a single, trusted picture of where money is going and why.

The role sits inside the SRE team but operates across the business daily. Engineering leads, Finance, and senior leadership will all rely on what you build and what you tell them. The person who succeeds here is technically grounded enough to get into the infrastructure, commercially sharp enough to speak Finance's language, and influential enough to shift how engineers think about the cost of what they ship.

What you will be responsible for:

• Designing and owning the cloud cost and usage intelligence layer across GCP
• Building a resource tagging and labelling framework that creates genuine cost accountability
• Owning a committed use discount strategy and driving continuous right-sizing across compute, containers, storage and databases
• Identifying and eliminating idle and orphaned resources through Cloud Functions and scripted automation
• Building and maintaining rolling 12–18 month cost forecasts tied to real business growth drivers
• Partnering with Finance on monthly close, accruals, variance analysis and budget planning
• Facilitating a monthly Cloud Cost Review with engineering leads and budget owners, tracking actions through to resolution
• Driving FinOps culture across engineering through coaching, runbooks and shared standards

What you will bring:

• A strong SRE or DevOps foundation with hands-on GCP or AWS production experience
• A FinOps track record built at meaningful scale, real savings, real numbers, real accountability
• Practical optimisation experience across the full infrastructure stack
• Strong Python capability and an instinct for automation over manual process
• The communication and influencing skills to work credibly across engineering and finance
• FinOps Certified Practitioner or Analyst certification beneficial
