Location: British Columbia (Remote/Some availability for in-person events required) Position Type: Full-Time Salary Range: $110,000 - $140,000 plus competitive benefits About Sport Safeguarding BC (SSBC) Sport Safeguarding BC (SSBC) is an independent organization established to promote safe, inclusive, and accountable sport environments across British Columbia. SSBC provides leadership in safeguarding, prevention, and the management and resolution of concerns related to abuse, maltreatment, and harassment in provincially funded amateur sport. SSBC’s work is grounded in a holistic, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive approach that prioritizes early intervention, accessibility, and trust. Its service delivery model is designed as a “one-door” system, ensuring individuals can come forward safely, receive guidance, and access appropriate pathways for resolution and accountability. Position Summary SSBC is seeking its inaugural Chief Executive Officer (CEO): a strategic, values-driven, and systems-oriented person to lead the organization, beginning with its organizational design and implementation phase. We also welcome expressions of interest for alternative teams-based approaches to providing leadership for SSBC. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO will be responsible for translating SSBC’s vision into an operational, trauma-informed service delivery model. This includes designing and implementing an intake and triage system, establishing early resolution and investigation pathways, and leading a phased, iterative rollout of services for provincially funded amateur sport organizations in British Columbia. As SSBC’s first CEO, this role is uniquely positioned to shape the organization’s structure, services, partnerships, and long-term impact, ensuring that safeguarding systems are accessible, responsive, and centered on the safety and well-being of participants in amateur sport. Key Responsibilities 1. Strategy, Vision & Organizational Design Operationalize SSBC’s vision into a comprehensive service delivery model grounded in: Prevention and early intervention Trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices Accessibility Lead the design and implementation of a “one-door” model for raising and managing concerns Develop and execute a multi-year, iterative rollout plan, including pilot phases, evaluation, and scaling Establish success indicators, evaluation frameworks, and continuous improvement mechanisms Identify and respond to emerging risks, trends, and policy developments in safeguarding and safe sport 2. Service Delivery & Program Development Design and implement SSBC’s concern management system, including: Navigator-based intake, triage, and ongoing support Early resolution pathways (e.g., conflict coaching, facilitated/shuttle discussions) Criteria and processes for escalation to investigation Establish and oversee: A navigator role as a consistent point of contact for individuals Internal early resolution capacity External rosters of mediators, facilitators, and investigators with appropriate training and diversity Ensure all services: Minimize re-traumatization and administrative burden for participants Provide clear, accessible information and options Support individuals throughout the full lifecycle of a concern Develop protocols for handling serious harm and risk, including alignment with legal processes where applicable 3. Organizational Build & Operations Lead the establishment of SSBC, including: Organizational structure, staffing plan, and operational systems Policies, procedures, and service standards Technology and data management systems to support intake, tracking, and reporting Recruit and lead staff (e.g., navigator, administrative support, early resolution roles) Establish an operational model with virtual intake and flexible service delivery 4. Board Relations & Governance Build a strong, transparent, and collaborative relationship with the Board Provide strategic advice on service model refinement, rollout, and organizational growth Support governance development, including policy frameworks and Board recruitment Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, bylaws, and governance standards 5. Stakeholder Engagement & System Leadership Serve as SSBC’s primary representative with government, viaSport, and sector partners Build relationships with: Provincial and national sport organizations Safeguarding and regulatory bodies Community and advocacy organizations Position SSBC as a trusted, independent system partner in safe sport Support alignment with public policy priorities and long-term funding strategies 6. Communications & Public Trust Lead the development of communications aligned with service rollout and public education Ensure messaging reflects SSBC’s values: trauma-informed, transparent, and accessible Support public awareness of safeguarding processes and available supports Act as spokesperson or designate as appropriate 7. Financial Management & Sustainability Develop and manage the annual budget and financial systems Ensure strong financial controls and accountability Lead funding strategy development, including government engagement and long-term sustainability planning Oversee responsible use of public funds and pilot-phase investments 8.
