ACTSA is looking for a passionate, dynamic campaigns and communications officer to cover maternity leave. Salary £32,000. Full-time role. This is a remote role. Role Description The Campaigns and Communications Officer is a full-time remote role responsible for planning, delivering, and evaluating ACTSA’s campaigns and communications activities. The role involves drafting and distributing press releases, crafting campaign messages, and managing content across digital channels including website, email newsletters, and social media. The officer will coordinate with civil society partners and stakeholders, support campaign events (online and in-person when required), and help mobilize supporters and members to take action. Day-to-day tasks include writing and editing advocacy materials, briefing documents, and public statements; monitoring media coverage and political developments related to Southern Africa; and contributing to strategy discussions on campaign priorities. The role also includes maintaining consistent organizational branding and messaging, monitoring analytics to improve reach and engagement, and supporting fundraising and membership communications as needed. You will have the skills: • To lead ACTSA’s campaigns and communications work. Developing campaigns in line with our strategic goals. • To lead small teams with ACTSA members (volunteers) and staff to ensure campaign events and partnership initiatives are implemented. • To collaborate with civil society groups in and from Southern Africa to amplify campaigns for human rights at national and international levels. • To develop public engagement opportunities. • To direct ACTSA’s communications in support of fundraising, linking our campaigns to targeted appeals and volunteer fundraising. • To recruit, supervise and support volunteers involved in ACTSA’s communications, engagement and campaigning work. You will be a talented campaigner, able to work innovatively and with autonomy. Working with the Director to identify, develop and sustain grassroots campaigns with civil society partners across Southern Africa, the UK and the globe. This is an exciting opportunity to lead our campaigns and communications work tackling injustice, whilst building partnerships and driving action and impact. You would benefit from having contacts within the sector, South Africa and the diaspora. Action for Southern Africa (ACTSA) is the successor to the Anti-Apartheid Movement and continues its legacy of solidarity with people in Southern Africa. ACTSA works with regional civil society organizations to campaign for human rights, equality, and social and economic justice in a region still confronting the impacts of apartheid and colonialism. The organization focuses on collective action, public education, and research to raise awareness about the causes of poverty and democratic challenges. ACTSA also promotes South–South cooperation and solidarity between the UK and Southern Africa. ACTSA is not a funding agency and does not maintain offices in Southern Africa, concentrating its efforts on advocacy and partnership-based work.
