About The Role
The University of Portsmouth Estates Department is seeking a skilled Business Analyst to join our team on a fixed-term contract basis. The successful candidate will contribute significantly to a large-scale transformation programme aimed at enhancing the university’s operational and digital infrastructure. The Business Analyst will be responsible for conducting strategic analysis activities to ensure that digital and business solutions align with the university's requirements and quality standards. This role involves engaging with various stakeholders, including technical teams and business subject matter experts, to gather, validate, and document detailed requirements. The Business Analyst will facilitate workshops, create comprehensive process maps, and schematic diagrams to illustrate complex data flows and business processes. These visual tools will support understanding of change impacts and identify opportunities for increased efficiency. While the role requires initial presence on campus in Portsmouth, flexible remote working arrangements are available, and the position is ideally suited for full-time hours with some flexibility for reduced hours if necessary. The role is anticipated to commence in late August 2026, with interviews scheduled for mid-July 2026, and offers the opportunity to contribute to a dynamic and forward-looking university environment.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in business analysis, with relevant experience in digital transformation projects or similar environments. A degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred. Certification in Business Analysis (such as CBAP, PMI-PBA, or equivalent) is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate excellent communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders. Proven experience in mapping complex business processes, creating schematic diagrams, and managing change initiatives is essential. Familiarity with data analysis tools and methodologies, along with a solid understanding of digital solutions and enterprise systems, will be advantageous. The ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing project requirements is crucial for success in this role.
Responsibilities
- Gather, validate, and document detailed business and technical requirements through workshops, interviews, and analysis.
- Facilitate stakeholder engagement to ensure comprehensive understanding of project scope and objectives.
- Create detailed process maps, schematic diagrams, and visual representations of business processes and data flows.
- Assess current business processes and identify opportunities for improvement and increased efficiency.
- Support change management activities by analyzing impacts and communicating effectively with stakeholders.
- Collaborate with technical teams to ensure solutions meet business needs and quality standards.
- Contribute to the development of project documentation, including business cases, user stories, and functional specifications.
- Assist in testing and validation activities to ensure solutions are fit for purpose.
- Participate in project meetings, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support the transition and implementation of new systems and processes within the university environment.
