Biomedical Lead Fully Remote • VIRGINIA BEACH, VA 23453 Apply Overview Position Type Full Time Job Shift Day Education Level 4 Year Degree Travel Percentage Up to 25% Category Programs Apply Description General Description: The Biomed Specialty Lead, Education Programs plays a key role in advancing Operation Smile’s global mission by designing and managing biomedical training programs that strengthen surgical care capacity in low-resource settings. Reporting to the Director of Operative Specialty Leads, this position oversees the development and execution of comprehensive education pathways, including program planning, trainee engagement, regional conferences, and strategic partnerships. The role requires strong project management, communication, and technical expertise to support global teams, ensure high-quality training delivery, and adapt world-class standards to diverse healthcare environments, ultimately helping expand access to safe surgical care worldwide. Essential Functions: Manage timely completion of key Biomed Pathways Steps: Program Planning Recruitment Welcome and Onboarding Tracking Trainee Progress including communication with Medical Oversight and Country teams Reviewing and tracking educators’ feedback Oversee trainee and educator engagement activities, including cohort calls, webinars, content for newsletter, etc. Identify and develop regionally appropriate didactic training options in multiple languages (e.g., Spanish and French), ensuring alignment with local workforce needs. Lead the planning, management and implementation of Biomed Regional Conferences including: Annual planning in collaboration with regional teams Overseeing content and resource development Coordinating participant communications with regional managers and country teams Partnering with logistics team to ensure effective program planning and delivery Supporting budget oversight Managing communication with partner organizations Overseeing program evaluation and reporting Lead and manage strategic partnerships with MedAid and Safe Surgery Initiative (SSI), ensuring: Compliance with MOUs, monitoring deliverables, and coordinating timely renewals Oversee the planning and implementation of virtual didactic training cohorts and on-site bespoke training programs, including site selection and close collaboration with country teams to ensure successful execution As program priorities evolve throughout the year, the Specialty Lead will also oversee and manage emerging responsibilities and initiatives specific to their specialty. Qualifications Job Qualifications and Skills Required: Bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering, clinical engineering, or a related field Strong understanding of medical equipment management, and training in low-resources settings 5+ years of project management experience, communications experience a plus Experience with coordinating projects and supporting teams Experience in learner management or contact management systems Preferred: experience working within health systems and at the population level in LMIC’s. Advanced computer skills, especially in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) Knowledge of foreign languages preferred Formal project management training preferred Core Competencies: Program & Project Management – Ability to plan, execute, and oversee complex, multi-country training programs while managing timelines, resources, and stakeholders.
