Product Offering: Covering five proven product areas - learning, fleet operations, compliance, voyage planning and performance management - supporting its customers from ship to shore, from training and people operations, to voyage compliance and optimisation. 🧭 Navigating the position: BI Team Lead As BI Team Lead at OneOcean you will lead the design, development and adoption of business intelligence solutions that power decision-making across the organisation. You will lead by example, manage and coach BI Developers, shape the BI roadmap and partner closely with Product, Architecture and Data Engineering to deliver insights fast — then scale and harden them into our enterprise data model. Working closely with other Team Leaders and stakeholders, you will help shape technical direction, streamline delivery processes and ensure alignment with business goals. This is a fully remote, Philippines-based role. 🚢 Your Voyage Ahead: Lead a team of BI Developers, ensuring alignment on goals, quality and delivery timelines. Mentor and coach team members to support their technical and professional growth. Drive engineering excellence by promoting best practices in modelling, DAX, semantic-layer design, testing and governance. Own stakeholder engagement with business leaders; gather and refine analytics requirements and translate them into well-defined user stories with clear acceptance criteria. Prioritise and maintain the BI backlog; balance strategic initiatives with quick wins that drive measurable adoption and impact. Plan and manage team capacity, sprints and milestones to ensure predictable delivery. Lead end-to-end BI solution delivery on Power BI — dataset design, semantic modelling, DAX, Power Query / M, RLS / CLS, shared datasets, deployment pipelines and Apps. Set modelling standards (star schemas, conformed dimensions, shared datasets, semantic-layer conventions) to ensure performance, reusability and consistency. Operate a two-speed delivery approach — a fast lane to prototype insights, and a scale lane working with Data Engineering to harden pipelines and productionise validated analytics. Ensure quality through robust validation, reconciliation and documentation; define and monitor SLAs / OLAs for BI datasets and reports. Collaborate with other Team Leaders, Development Managers, Architects and Product Owners to align engineering execution with business objectives. Champion data literacy and self-service through enablement sessions, office hours and playbooks. Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation and knowledge sharing. 🚢 Recommended to bring on board: 7+ years of commercial BI / Analytics experience. 2+ years leading a BI / Analytics team or function with a solid grasp of Agile methodologies (Scrum / Kanban). Strong hands-on expertise with Power BI (Desktop & Service) — data modelling, DAX, Power Query / M, shared datasets, deployment pipelines, Apps, RLS / CLS, Fabric / capacity workspaces. Advanced PostgreSQL and SQL — window functions (DISTINCT ON, ROW_NUMBER, OVER / PARTITION BY), CTEs, MERGE, temp tables, stored functions in PL/pgSQL. Strong data warehouse fundamentals — staging → dimension → fact → presentation architecture; SCD; surrogate keys; FK relationships; MERGE / upsert patterns; star-schema design and grain. SQL Server / T-SQL familiarity — several upstream systems (e.g. GCC_Customer, GCC_Core, Dandocs, IFS) are SQL Server-originated. Exceptional communication, teamwork, attention to detail, organisational and leadership skills. Ability to inspire, mentor and lead by example. Nice to have Apache Superset — dashboards, charts, permissions; working knowledge of underlying OLAP / SQL data sources. Niche skill — a strong plus, not expected. Apache Druid — awareness of the columnar analytics store used as our serving layer; OLAP / SQL data sources; query patterns from Power BI. Liquibase (or equivalent migration tooling such as Flyway) — runOnChange, changeset sequencing, DDL-as-code. Azure Data Factory (ADF) — pipeline orchestration, activity dependencies, execution ordering. REST API / SaaS data ingestion — API-sourced data pipelines (e.g. Stripe, Jira). Git / Bitbucket and CI/CD for database objects — branching, PR workflows, code review; SQL objects versioned and deployed, not run ad hoc. Python or dbt — transferable from a modern data stack background. Jira / Confluence — project hygiene, ticket management, documentation culture. Data governance — cataloguing / lineage, naming standards, data quality rules; security (SSO / RBAC, RLS / CLS best practice). Self-service enablement at scale — shared datasets, certified content, governance councils.
