Then think of joining the City of Edmonton Assessment and Taxation branch of Financial Services and Utilities, as an Assessor Team Lead. Forming part of the leadership team, the Assessor Team Lead works with a high degree of autonomy and is a key player in driving the cultural change required to enhance the relationship between employees and the leadership team. The Assessor Team Lead provides technical guidance, direction, and coaching to a team, as well as functions as an expert resource, performing these daily responsibilities: Apply mass appraisal theory and techniques to a variety of properties for the purpose of estimating value Provide guidance and direction to a team, and help them determine the appropriate approaches to value and methodology Apply processes, procedures, and current technology to prepare property assessments Prepare and monitor staff work plans and participate in collaborative discussions on cross-team resource allocation as dictated by operational needs and priorities Coach staff in their development, including effectively leading, mentoring, and engaging staff Explain and discuss assessments, related legislation, regulations, and policies to taxpayers, property agents, and valuation professionals Coordinate representation at quasi-judicial boards and authorities, including sometimes preparing and presenting evidence at complex quasi-judicial hearings Assist team members with the review of submissions, creation of evidentiary packages and attend court hearings in order to enhance the training of newer assessors Liaise with Law Branch as required in determining appropriate application of assessment legislation and assessment defense strategies Provide timely and outstanding customer service and assist in resolving difficult situations Attend and present at public information forums Consult with representatives of other jurisdictions and the business community on assessment-related issues and developments Other related duties as assigned Qualifications : Accredited Municipal Assessor of Alberta (AMAA) designation, Accredited Appraiser Canadian Institute (AACI), or Certified Assessment Evaluation (CAE) Certificate Program in Real Property Assessment or equivalent Undergraduate degree in Commerce, Economics, Statistics or related discipline with a minimum of six (6) years progressively responsible real estate appraisal experience including at least two (2) years post accreditation experience, and a minimum of two (2) years in a mass appraisal environment -OR- Diploma in Commerce, Economics, Statistics or a related discipline with a minimum of eight (8) years progressively responsible real estate appraisal experience including at least two (2) years post accreditation experience, and a minimum of two (2) years in a mass appraisal environment Skills required for success: Management and/or supervisory course work with ability to lead, mentor and develop a diverse team Knowledge of all market approaches to value using mass appraisal techniques Knowledge of assessment legislation, rules, regulations, principles, processes, and procedures for assessing real property Proficient in the use of computer applications including Google based applications and statistical data applications (SPSS) Demonstrated team leadership ability, including ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of team members, while leading major projects Change agent with an open mind and willingness to adapt Excellent communication in verbal, written and presentation form Alignment to our Cultural Commitments and Leadership Competencies ( https://bit.ly/4brRrXm ) Embracing a culture of equity, diversity, reconciliation, and inclusion Conditions of Employment: Hire is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (CRC) security clearance that is satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and is a requirement of this position.
